An announcement from Dimitris Geaneas, the Festival Chairman of the Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church:
Come dance, eat, drink and be Greek for a day at our 35th Annual Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Festivali in Holmdel, June 7-10.
Our 2012 Festival is a living and breathing experience of our Greek culture, traditions and heritage that we wish to share with our friends, neighbors and the entire community. It is through the generous hard work and dedication of our parishioners, who get together and volunteer their time and talents, that we have an enjoyable and successful Festival each year.
Our Greek culinary treasures will surely delight and satisfy your palette. The moussaka and pastichio recipes have been time tested and handed down for four generations. The souvlaki both pork and chicken, have been marinated with Mediterranean spices and will be served over a bed of rice and are accompanied with a Greek salad. From our Grecian grill and always fun to eat, a souvlaki or gyro on a pita bread with lettuce, tomatoes, and tsatziki (yogurt) sauce.
These are just a few samples of our Festival menu. After you have danced a few Greek dances like Zorba, and you feel the need to eat something sweet, head for the pastry booth and experience true happiness. Baklava is probably the best-known Greek dessert.
But, we assure you there is also happiness in the ravani, galaktoboureko, kataifi, koulourakia, kourambiedes, and finikia. Oh yes, we also have loukoumades (honey puffs). We also provide great entertainment with Greek music, and Greek dancing by our youth in authentic costumes. Always lots of fun for the youngsters are the rides and games.
