Youth Patriotic Art Contest Held by Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 2179
The Ladies Auxiliary to Post 2179 is announcing its annual Young Creative American Patriotic Art Contest. This contest is open to all students in grades 9 -12 in public, private, parochial schools or home schooled students.
Some of the art work that these students do is amazing from the local level to the National level. You can see what 2012 winners did by going to the website: www.ladiesauxvfw.org/news/auxiliary/325-patriotic-art-winners-2012.html
The rules are explained in the application
which can be downloaded from: www.ladiesauxvfw.org/programs/scholarships/html
No digital art is accepted. Basically the art must be on paper or canvas. It can be in water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink, or oil.
One thing that National says that cannot be stressed enough
- Common mistakes include not enough stars or stripes, stripes in the wrong order or wrong place, flag appearing to have something standing on it, written on it or lying on it. If in doubt to what is accepted, the Flag
Code will let you know what you can do in regard to the American Flag. Many good paintings have been rejected
because they flag was written on, used as a garment, or something being place on it. One of the codes of etiquette as written below is a major error that artist make when planning their art. (www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html)
*****The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind placed on it, or attached to it. *****
Deadline for the Art contest is March 31, 2013. All work can be brought to VFW Post 2179, 1 Veterans Lane, Port Monmouth, NJ 07758 to the attention of CS Peterson. E-mail any questions to csp1311@yahoo.com , call 732-787-0999 and leave a message and you will receive a return call.
