ABC News: Kerri Dalton's Husband Reveals Details About Stabbing Attack at Bed Bath & Beyond (Video)

Kerri Dalton called 911 to report the attack, her husband said.

Roger Dalton, the husband of the 29-year old woman who was brutally stabbed 13 times by a knife-wielding assailant at a Bed Bath & Beyond in Middletown on January 17, said his wife is recovering slowly at home in Keansburg.

In an interview with Channel 7 news, Dalton shared new details about the attack on his wife Kerri Dalton, who had been shopping with their infant daughter when it happened.

"She didn't realize that she was being stabbed, because the first stab was in her neck," he told the ABC News TV reporter. "And this animal actually took her and held her up — just to make sure she didn't fall over, and stabbed her in the neck, and continued to stab her until she fell on the ground."

Dalton said that his wife called 911 on her own cellphone, and then called him to say she needed him.

Police arrested 19-year old Tyrik S. Haynes of Middletown and charged him with first degree attempted murder and other offenses. He is being held on $1,050,000 bail at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility.

Dalton, who last week issued a statement asking for privacy, told television reporters he was amazed by the outpouring of support from the community.

As of the evening of Jan. 29, donations by 331 people have raised $11,400 dollars for her expenses at www.HelpKerriDalton.org

I didn't think this story could be any more horrifying. No versions of it have anyone coming to her aid. Was she isolated somewhere in the store, I wonder?

Jarhead..I don't know if you've ever been in BB&B but I believe she was in the curtain section which goes back from the main aisle a bit..The different sections of the store go back a bit..If there's no one else in you're section,it's kind of hard to see whats happening from the main aisle..I would hope that if someone did see or hear her they would have helped asap! I'm so happy to hear she is home and recovering..Now lock this jerk up for life!

Christine, I have and I those are precisely the sections I was thinking of. My wife shops there too which is a part of the reason why I am so angry and find this to be so genuinely horrifying.

Their curtain dept. is very isolated and somewhat camouflaged with all the curtains hanging on display. Anytime I've ever been back there it's always a creepy feeling that you are somewhat disconnected from the rest of the store. I could see how she might have been attacked there and no one was around to come to her aid. Happy to hear she's on the mend.

NJarhead,it's possible that he waited until there was no one around to attack her.And if not her, some other person who was shopping at BB&B at the time he was there.

Not just possible, but likely. I'm sure you shop there too; I'm just trying to put it all together. And I'll tell you what, he can forget the insanity BS if he purposely chose her because she was islolated.

its disgusting how noone came to help her... That she had to call 911 to get her own help... I have no words.

I think that if anyone saw what happened or heard her scream, they would have helped, erin.Wouldt you have waited for help when you were able to call yourself?Seconds count. You and I weren't there,so we don't know what other customers and the store's employees did.I do remember reading somewhere that the store manage's actions may have saved her life.
I was in a situttion a few years ago where I needed help from strangers, and everyone in the area came to help me.So,don't write off your fellow human beings until you know for a fact that they could have helped and chose not to.

NJarhead,he's probably nuts. The legal definition of insanity means that he didn't know what he did was wrong. The fact that he ran from the store proves that he did know it.And he sure didn't look like he could help his attorney in his own defense on the tape that was shown of his arraingment.

Marylou, he ran from the store and he chose a victim who was isloated. He knew what he was doing was wrong, I agree.

The individual that committed this horrific act is dangerous to the society and if found guilty needs to be confined for the rest of his life so he doesn’t hurt others. NO parole ever.

I wish someone would have just cut his throat on the spot. I know that's not the popular way of thinking, but I don't care.

I am angry too about this but I know that two wrongs do not make a right. It is probably normal for individuals to feel this need for retribution (An eye for an eye) but think about it, that lowers us to the same level as this kid. I say, if found guilty, put him away for life so he can’t hurt other people (or pets).

Would you be willing to agree on exile? Rather than the death penalty or imprisonment (where we have to pay for these wastes of skin), we could identify a waste island in the middle of no where and just ship them there. If they die, they die.

speedy recovery wishes Kerri... don't let this animal ruin your life! There are so many people who support you and will help you! I hope you find a way to cope and start to live your life again. <3

Why is no one bringing up that fact that this is clearly a racially motivated hate crime.

It clearly was. That guy is not Caucasian and he clearly picked out a white woman to attack. If it had been the other way around it would be a non-rebuttable presumption. And don't bother continuing with your arm chair psycho and legal analysis of intent and his mental state you are embarrassing yourself with your clear lack of knowledge of medicine and law. It is too bad John Jay isn’t around to keep you in line anymore.

Exactly,NJarhead.Just because a black guy sees every white on black crime as a hate crime doesn't make it so,and is no reason for anyone to become the white equivalent of this horse's patoot.

Agreed Jarhead..I do NOT think this was racially motivated..I think this was just a random incident..I think he saw this woman by herself way back in the curtain section cut off from the rest of the store..I hope I'm right and I hope he never walks the streets again.

The only person that knows if it was racially motivated is the suspect himself. It could have been or maybe not. What really matters is that Kerri is improving and that the suspect be put away for life. Kerri should also not have to be responsible for any medical bills for this incident. I did read in a post by a friend of Kerri's that there were 2 men 5ft. from her that she begged for help and did not receive it. I am wondering who the men were and why did they not help her. If this is true, those men should be ashamed of themselves. Also if this is true, were they shoppers or employees of BB&B? I send my prayers to Kerri and her family.

It should be up to a jury to decide if the crime was racially motivated. The prosecutor should go for it and lock this sicko away forever. If there were really 2 men that close and we were in Texas and not NJ then maybe this sicko could have got a bullet in his face like he deserves. I bet the two men were afraid if they tried to help they would be charged for assault and a hate crime for touching the sicko.
