Police: Armed Robbery At a North Middletown Deli

The Bray Avenue Deli & Grocery was held up.

The Bray Avenue Deli & Grocery in North Middletown was the scene of an armed robbery Tuesday evening, say police.

At 7:51 p.m., someone entered the store at Bray and Thompson Avenues, showed the clerk what appeared to be a handgun, and demanded the clerk put money in a bag, said Middletown Police Det. Lt. Stephen Dollinger.

The suspect then left with an undisclosed amount of money, said Dollinger.

No further details were available Tuesday evening, said police.

I'm surprised that they didn't link us with to keansburg.by calling us the east keansburg section of middletown. Every time something like this happens.

Horrible!! I hope the poor clerk is okay and can return to work without worries.
We really need to get the guns off the streets, this is just another example.
The fact that you can go into a Walmart and buy a gun, blows my mind, I know that you have to wait... blah, blah, blah. But really going into a local "MART" and buying guns is just wrong.

I can get an illegal gun faster then I can get a legal gun.. Taking guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens is the worst thing you can do because that will leave just criminals with guns..

Mike, you'll find that most folks who against guns, don't know a thing about how they or the system works. They just "know" that more gun laws = less crime, which you and I know is BS.

Maybe you have not been to Walmart lately. They do not sell guns! In fact there is not a place to buy guns within 25 or more miles from here. And if you were to purchase a gun,you would have to go through an extensive background check that takes months.

I am not complaining - I am pro-gun and hate the liberals that run NJ. I just hate IDIOTS more.

Speaking of idiots - I was wondering where you have been jarheadcheese. I actually find that most folks who against guns also be fo fried chicken.

Smh what is happening to middletown.... Its the drug problem that is causing all of this and it's kept quiet because we live in the suburbs. They want kids to not do drugs yet there is not one open gym for kids to play basketball in this town. It's so sad how different the town is now. This town use to be such a lovely place and still can be if we can get rid of the drug problem. It was probably some druggie needing money.

This is so disturbing..This poor person is just trying to get through their shift and this scumbag has to come and do this..It's a shame because this "wet side" of town has already been through so much..I hope they catch the ass that did it!

Less than 24 hours since it happened and everyone's already blaming the town and the police department. You all are a bunch of asses. Instead of bitching about it try and help the neighborhood out. Middletowns cops are so called "pigs", then maybe you should become a police officer seeing as you think you would do such a better job.

Does it really matter what part of town this happened in? The bottom line is that no one was injured or worse. As far as blame goes, you can't blame anyone. How could you possibly blame the police? They were probably patrolling the skate park!

There is a recreation center and a basketball court on the same street where the robbery occurred so I don't think we can blame it on the fact that there is no place for the kids to play. I think some people are just wired wrong or had parents that didn't do their job raising these rejects properly.

Middletown (most likely actually East Keansburg) Girl - what in the world does "where they're buying their come from" mean. Also - who is doing who's wives? Since you apparently know why don't you tell us so that the police can stop worrying about it and get to work.

Well I know of one cop getting mixed up with a crossing guard. And another cops wife got caught screwing a dentist. But besides that, the police nowadays do more driving around then actually stop and talk to people. My guess is that this savage is from out of town and saw an easy score.east keansburg was and still is a great place to live. :•p

Do it sweet cheeks - open all of our eyes - you are the one making the allegations. Call the FBI or State Police is sounds like you are making allegations of a RICO violation they would love that for the media. Although - I am sure if there was any proof of any of your allegations they would get out there. Other than the oches recording his promotion interview (paranoid!) or telling a black officer to get some cornrows (how is that racist? you are a racist for thinking that only blacks get cornrows) I havent heard anything. Maybe you are a police groupie or ex-wife that was cheated on or something and have personal issues.

There is or at least was a Rec Center down the road from this store so kids can go there..Anyway, do we know it was a kid that commited this crine? What if it was a middle aged man? And it's not MTPD job to mind people's kids, people should raise their kids not to be animals and not allow them to run wild! If you have such issues with MTPD maybe next time you need help you should call a crackhead and see how that works out for you.

Middletown girl..You have NO idea who I am OR how long I've lived in Middletown (FOREVER!) And for the record I live on Jersey Ave. and I was VERY close to the home where "that girl" ,whose name was Lynn by the way,was killed and then her home set on fire at 1:30 in the morning..I can tell you that the MTPD were helpful and on the case day & night when that happened..So please quit your bitching, no offense but yours is not the only opinion that counts..Oh and another by the way, after "that girl" was busted for drugs the police were down this street everyday usually in unmarked cars so please do not speak on issues that you obviousky know nothing about..Thanks.And this is the last response you will get from me, I will not be baited into a pissing match with someone who thinks they know everything.Have a good one.

Wow you are one angry lady!! You should really learn to channel that anger into a hobby that does not involve bad mouthing everything and anything online..Yes I see bad things going on everyday, but I also see alot of good things going on as well..And for the record, not EVERY crime commited is due to drugs or has drugs involved..And back to the original article,I hope the clerk from the deli is OK and I hope they catch the creep that robbed him..As for you Middletown Girl, have a nice life, and try not to be so hateful towards those who serve and protect YOU..Not all cops are on the up and up(just like some people)but the good outweigh the bad..And NO,I'm not blind or dumb or unable to form sentences,I jut think that alot of these cops bust their butts trying to do the right thing..So like I said enjoy your time here in Middletown, and take up a less angry streesful hobby then yelling and down talking to people online..Maybe knitting :-)

WOW
Middletown girl you know and see so much! You should form a block watch committee and try to work with the local police department hand in hand. So YOU CAN HELP Middletown return to the place where we all are proud to live and raise children.

Very interesting comments by people who love to hide behind the anonymity that is provided by this blog. Suddenly, people who are so meek and timid become very courageous when they hide their true identity (as if people dont know who bagodonuts and middletowngirl are). It seems to me that maybe they should reflect back on their own troubled past and use to provide a positive atmosphere for their own children, rather than ranting on a blog while their family members continue their reckless behavior throughout the town they love so much. As far as drug dealers and crime is concerned, be bold go to the police station and demand something be done about it. After all you both love to rant on this blog so you not have a problem expressing yourselves in person to police officials.

Agreed Middletown..I wonder,MiddletownGirl hates and badmouths the MTPD so very much,if she ever has a problem or issue that requires the police, who the heck is she gonna call?? And furthermore, who would WANT to come??!! I agree with Middletowm, instead of all this badmouthing and fingerpointing, why dont you actually get down from your soapbox(be careful! Youre up SO much higher then the rest of us!!)and make a report or a watch or something..Good Luck

i agree with middletown girl.. if you guys think its not a problem then your part of the problem. Keep dismissing it. its just going to get worse. the Deli needs to be bulldozed. nothing but trouble with that place. last yr the kid behind the counter was arrested for trying to touch a 13yr girl. the dirtbags that use to live upstairs from the store were nothing but trouble and were kicked out but the kids come back once and a while. wouldn't be surprised if it was one of them. if the cops were what they were 10-20yrs ago this would not be going on. now they make over 100k so its beneath them to get their fingernails dirty. keep raising property taxes so that we can pay these cops to do such a wonderful job and to support the crackheads who use the money from welfare to buy more drugs.

Middletown girl you are absolutely right I did presume that you have a checkered past based on your ranting discontent. Tell everyone if I'm wrong, you don't have a marred past that has influenced the conduct of your family members. If you are so dissatisfied and have so much time on your hands to blog Anonymously , then let your voice be heard by those who you think can make a change

not complaining. just airing out some thoughts. the easiest solution is to call the cops but that doesn't work. what other solution do you have? the bottom line is this area has been going down hill every year for the last 7-10yrs. why is that? you have alot of nice things about middletown but it only takes a few rotten eggs to ruin everything about it. you cannot walk down the street at night anymore its that bad. these kids come in from keansburg thinking they are king sht and act tough. i would love to see those same 15-20yr olds act that tough in BK or the bronx.. its ridiculous.

From what i read here on the patch, the cops are constantly locking up drug dealers and other criminals like crazy in mtown I checked on the app data universe and the mtown cops have more arrests then hazlet, holmdel, keyport, union beach, and kburg combined. It appears quite obvious that the people complaining about them have been arrested or there family members have. I don't even live there...just say'n..they could lighten up on the hwy 36 speedtraps

OMG lady! I go outside plenty.. Like I said, I see good and bad..Please PLEASE do not assume to know me or what I do.. We will have to agree to disagree..Everytime I needed help from MTPD I got it..Sounds like you've had a bad experience or two so you have a bad opinion but I do NOT..So like I said before DO NOT ever assume you know me, my neighborhood OR anything that goes on here..Keep you opinions to YOUR neighborhood and kindly keep your nose out of mine.

I too live in the area, and agree with Christine, that our neighborhood is a decent place to live. Middletowngirl sounds like a very angry/immature person, who must be bored with her own personal life, since she has so much time to watch what all of her neighbors are doing. I feel like I always see police driving through the area, and all of my neighbors are close and watch out for one another...so I feel safe :) It must be hard having so much hate inside you....

Middletown cops make more arrests and respond to more calls than most towns in the county. They don't arrest enough drug dealers to satisfy the public? But.you know where they're being sold to and from? Maybe. The community could .help the Law by reporting the activity. Criminals hide from police officers. But the civilians know what looks wrong and if they have time to complain on this nonsense thread they could take time to make an anonymous tip to report the aforementioned illicit activity. Or just keep crying about it."all that evil needs to succeed, is for good men to.do.nothing". #justsaying

The town and officers are doing everything they can to keep up with this ever growing problem. Middletown has one of the largest drug detective teams not only helping our town, but the state as well. All the towns surrounding middletown all work together to combat this issue. The police need more probable cause to act on those who are selling and distributing. That probable cause is brought on by the people speaking up about what they see. My suggestion is if you see it, report it. If you see it again, report it. Something will get done.
