Fire Damages Belford Convenience Store

The E-Z Quick Market, located in Campbell's junction, was the site of a fire earlier this morning.

A Wednesday convenience store fire shut down parts of Leonardville Road causing detours for this morning's commute.

At 6:22 a.m. a fire was reported at the E-Z Quick Food Mart on Leonardville Road, said Middletown Township Fire Department Chief Andy Spears.

When the fire department arrived to the E-Z Quick Food Mart, located at 111 Leonardville Road inside Campell’s Junction, within minutes of the initial call, firefighters noticed the front windows of the building were charred and there was heavy smoke coming from the building.

Leonardville Road was closed at 6:35 a.m. between Main Street and Clinton Avenue, Spears said.

Firefighters opened up parts of the convenience store's roof and doused an area toward the rear of the building.

The scene was turned over to fire marshals around 8:15 a.m. and Leonardville Road was reopened.

Belford Fire Company, Belford Independent Fire Company, Community Fire Company, Brevent Park Fire Company, Port Monmouth Fire Department and Middletown Township Fire Department Air Unit responded to the fire.

Leonardo and Middletown Township First Aid Squads also responded.

Middletown Township Police were on scene.

JCP&L was also on scene because some neighboring businesses, including Sabatos Prime Meats, were left without power during the fire.

There were no reported injuries

The Middletown Township Fire Prevention Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire.

I agree. Something stinks and it ain't the smoke smell.

Yep that's why they renovated it because of the last fire...the lady behind the counter is always really nice but I don't think business is that great. Every time I go in there a very few people in there.

It's been there so long, somehow...being one of three within 1/4 mile. Is the Cumberland Farms (?) still on the other side of Main St.? 7-11 has been on Leonardville forever as well.
