Grace Cosgrove Performs Laura Nyro Songs Sunday
Cosgrove will be singing her new album, which pays tribute to Laura Nyro, at the Monmouth County Library on Sunday, Oct. 21
Award-winning singer Grace Cosgrove will be performing her new album, To Laura with Love, at the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m.
Cosgrove's new album is a tribute to Laura Nyro, a singer-songwriter of the 1960s and 1970s. Nyro is known for her eclectic sound which blends pop, jazz, R&B, gospel, and Broadway.
Several of Nyro's hit songs include "Wedding Bell Blues", "Eli's Coming", "Stoned Soul Picnic", and "And When I Die".
"From the first time she heard Laura Nyro’s music as a teenager, [Cosgrove] was enthralled and transported by the spirit, passion and poetic storytelling of Laura’s songwriting art, and has been interpreting her songs throughout her performing career," Cosgrove's website explains.
Cosgrove works to pay tribute to Nyro, and not imitate her, according to the singer's website. The New York Post described a recent performance of Cosgrove's as "absolutely mesmerizing . . . and enormously entertaining."
Musical Director Don Rebic, who has played for singers like Peggy Lee, Barbara Cook, Leslie Uggams and Dame Kiri Te Kawana, will be accompanying Cosgrove as musical director and pianist on Sunday.
Cosgrove began singing at a very early age and has been featured at the Metropolitan Room and in numerous cabarets throughout New York City.
Monmouth County Library Headquarters is located at 125 Symmes Drive in Manalapan Township.
