The Belford man was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 46-year-old Belford resident has drowned in Ideal Beach off of Port Monmouth Road on Thursday afternoon, according to a statement from the Middletown Township Police Department.

At approximately 1:47 p.m. Middletown police responded to a report of a possible drowning at Ideal Beach.

Upon arrival Lt. William Brunt and Cpl. Robert McNair found Belford resident Charles Henshaw, 46, in the water. The officers pulled him to shore.

CPR was performed on the way to the hospital, said Bob Pfleger, public information Officer Township of Middletown EMS Department.

Ideal Beach is a Township Park and is supposed to have a Lifeguard on duty.

Nearby Bayshore Waterfront Park is a County Park and has no Lifeguards. Perhaps that's what has happened here.

Ideal beach has lifeguards on duty on weekends only because of budget cuts.

He was just arrested in July.

• Charles Henshaw, age 46, West Susan Street in Hazlet, NJ, arrested on July 21, 2012 by Corporal Bernie Chenoweth for Disorderly Conduct. He was released pending a court date.

Wonder if he was drinking or dopping which cause him to drown? The water is very shallow there.

does it matter if he was drinking or drugging? the man died thats it. i go fishing there all the time and there is always drinking and drugging going on. its part of the reason most people go to ideal beach because the cops dont bother anyone there
