Fire companies from Keansburg, Middletown, Cliffwood Beach, Aberdeen and others from Monmouth County rushed to Keansburg yesterday.
There was no fire except for flames from the firehouse grill. But the day was heating up as Keansburg Fire Company #1 celebrated 100 years of service with a celebration that hundreds of people attended.
The daylong ceremony began with a parade of fire trucks and emergency vehicles down Main Street in Keansburg and continued with a vendor fair, car and motorcycle show, and a chili contest.
Keansburg Fire Company #1 was incorporated on October 3, 1912 making it the first volunteer fire company in town.
Keansburg Fire Company #1 is one of two fire companies in Keansburg. New Point Comfort Volunteer Fire Company was organized in 1912 and incorporated about a year later on August 2, 1913.
The company was first named the New Point Comfort Chemical Engine Company, and was later renamed the New Point Comfort Fire Company #1.
The company keeps with community tradition though offering Bingo every Friday night at 8 p.m. at the fire house.
