Leaf Collection Begins in November

The schedule will be released shortly. Meanwhile, curbside brush collection has ended.

The Middletown Public Works Dept. is asking residents to remove piles of brush at the curb for pedestrian and driving safety reasons.

Because brush collection has ended, residents should bring their debris to the Recycling Center at 52 Kanes Lane, free of charge. Operating hours are Thursday through Monday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The center is closed Tuesdays and Wednesday.

Violators are subject to fines of up to $2,000, up to 90 days imprisonment and/or community service for improper disposal of brush.

Middletown Public Works is also authorized to remove improperly disposed materials and assess the cost of removal and disposal against the responsible resident.

For information on the 2012 Leaf Collection Schedule, call 732-615-2008.

Brush collection hasn't ended .... It has been canceled! No pick up until spring 2013... Absolutely ludicrous. What are people suppose to do if the don't have a truck or trailer.

Try renting a U-Hall or asking a friend for his or her pickup or trailer. You had all summer and most of the Spring to put out your brush to the side of the curb in front of your home. What your problem they sent the information out to your home about went they will be picking for Brush and leaves. How long you been living in this area. This is nothing new they been doing this way for years wake up.

I agree that brush pick-up is very important to the elderly and people who drive small economical vehicles. You would think that with the amount of money saved from plowing and salting for last years mild winter this shouldn't be any kind of issue. And we all know it's the bottom dollar that brought this on. maybe we need to replace people in charge.

The was no money saved from not plowing and salting -- it was money not spent. What happens when there is a season or two when there is a lot of plowing and salting and then pick-up becomes an issue. For those that don't have trucks to haul their own they will have to hire someone; or get together with neighbors for a combined pick up. Or, just adhere to the township schedule and not dump debrits in the street.

According to Ordinance No. 2011-3041 any commercial landscaper planning to work on any property in the township must first obtain a permit from DPW. More importantly, those commercial landscapers shall be RESPONSIBLE FOR DISPOSAL of all brush, leaves and tree cuttings and SHALL NOT place any brush, leaves and tree cuttings along the street for curbside collection. This means if you're paying for a landscaper to do your yard, you're also paying for him to remove the stuff FROM your yard and he should be doing that. I've seen landscapers leave their piles in the street instead of taking it with them ALL THE TIME. Am I gonna report my neighbors? No, even though those piles keep increasing in size and making it harder each week to maneuver my car down the street. DPW is just not enforcing this ordinance and they should be! And the homeowners involved should hire new landscapers if the ones they pay refuse to obey the law. P.S. I think the 90 days imprisonment is a bit over the top.

That's absolute garbage. My landscaper charges me to cut the lawn... Not to take away the limbs that I have accumulated over the past year behind my shed. Where are all the tax dollars going. Read the website... They canceled the fall brush pick up, and now the new schedule is fall leaves and spring brush. Btw.. Half the time they don't get around to the leaves until December, or even worse they come in October when half my trees are still covered with leaves. What a lame DPW. Not the workers... Who ever is making these decisions! You know how many people are going to need a pick up after tonight's wind..... And now it has to wait until spring. That's garbage!

If it was a landscaper who generated the limbs behind your shed, as in the landscaper trimmed / cut down your trees, then under the ordinance, he's obligated to remove them. Hell, I can't afford to hire a landscaper but if I could I would fully expect him to remove the brush and limbs he charged me to trim. I wouldn't want my unsightly piles of stuff to lay there month after month and inconvenience my neighbors. But for those of us who can't afford the luxury of a landscaper, I think brush collection only once a year is absurd. For the time being I'll keep stuffing a few cut up twigs in my trunk and making multiple trips to DPW.

The town hasn't done enough to inform the public about the change to leaf and brush pick up. They should spend the money to send a copy of the ordinance with a cover letter to each household and commercial busness in the township and they should auto dial every resident in the township informing them of the change. Then they need to start enforcing the ordinance starting with a warning. This ordinance has been in effect for over a year. The township committee might also want to seriously consider combining brush an leaf pick up and having a pick up twice a year.

They pick up the brush for 6 months from April till Sept, and they pick up leaves from late October or early November up till March What more you want.

Hey jack... Why should I have to pay for a uhaul? I pay taxes. There was no brush pick up this fall or summer... It was canceled. Go tithe website. They usually have a brush pick up in the fall before they do a leaf pick up...I really don't think it's that much to ask for ... One I the spring and one in the fall. I think the town council should seriously consider adding a second brush pick up.

Hey Tommy why couldn't you put out the brush in time went they came to your area to pick up the brush. I don't know anyone who isn't a taxes payer even the people who work for the town have to pay their taxes. Try calling the Town hall and ask why they stop picking up brush.

I can't answer for Tom,but I'll tell you what we did.We did put the brush out for the spring pick-up. We then had a storm in the spring and many large branchs blew down. The twp.used to pick up both brush and leaves in the spring and fall. They changed it to brush in the spring, leaves in the fall. A few years back, the picked up our leaves in Jan.,after it snowed.

I might add tha many of us who live in the twp.are our own "landscapers." and have no one to remove our leaves and brush.Again, both leaves and brush used to be picked up twice per year.My taxes haven't gone down.Have your's?

Same situation here Marylou... And I'm sure many people lost branches and limbs yesterday that are not able to fit in their trunk... No reason why they can't get out and do this twice a year. We're not asking for a monthly pick up....

Mr Tommy you had 6 months to get your branches out to the crubside they don't do this twice a year they do this for 6 months out of a year that 6 months for Brush and 6 months for leaves. The branches will fit in the Garbage trucks as long that the woods are not NO bigger then 3 foot. But if you have wood that are bigger then 3 foot you need to cut then to 3 foot but most time they will have a dump truck to go out to pick up the bigger wood. So it is your fault if you can not have your Brushes or leaves out to your crubside went they are schedule to pick up the leaves. Its not Public Works fault. They send out the Schedule each year saying went they are schedule to pick up the brush and leaves in your area. If you don't have a Schedule you can do so by just going over to the main office on Kanes lane to the Middletown Public Works NOT the Recycling center Monday thur Friday 8:30 am until 4:00 pm. If you want to blame anyone don't blame Publice works for it they are just going be what the Town Hall tell them to do So if you have any question call them NOT Public Works. So stop your cry babying.

I don’t give a crap about any of you and your twigs and leaves - just light them on fire and burn them up - what is ludicrous though is that not only are these incompetent people taking 3 years to replace a gas main (this job would be finished in a week in china) during the day! but they have the damn Middletown public works truck on the detour route this morning making the traffic even worse.

You can put small amount of twigs and leaves in with the garbage (garbage tax area).

As for the gas main work which does not pertain to this discussion , Kiely bids the job and get paid that price . If it takes a a day or a year it's the same cost . Unless there is a performance bond for getting done early .

Are you that Tim McGraw the Country singer? Feel so sorry for you that you had those damn Middletown Public Works trucks in your way trying to get to work where you work at a Wendy. Why don't go back to China where things get done in a week.

Not exactly lou but thanks for trying for some strange reason, I guess you like to hear yourself type. Clearly you are not one of the investment bankers in holmdel. Kiely gets PAID the same amount irrespective of how long the job takes. They have an incentive to finish quickly and keep their COSTS down so that they make a larger PROFIT (Price - Costs = Profit) If the job takes a day or a year the cost for kiely is much higher especially since they have 10 people sitting there doing nothing while one guy takes a week to put together a pipe and drop it in the ground.

I was not surprised when they broke a gas main – the one they are installing!!! Are you kidding me! How incompetent can you be. These guys look like they are meant to be putting whoppers into the flame broiler rather than laying pipe.

They did not break the line they were installing . they broke an un marked one . The one they are installing does not have gas in it nor will it until they finish installing .I guess you just like hear yourself type . You have no clue of what it takes to do this work nor do you know what job assignment each man on the job has ie, welder, operator, pipe fitter, foreman, gas co inspector, or laborer just to name a few

And if it's a steel main they are installing there will be a third party who has to x-ray each weld .

It is interesting how the few you forgot to name are the ones that stand there all day doing absolutely nothing. I am wondering if maybe you are not one of them since you seem to know everything. As I stated earlier all I know or care about is that it is taking them longer to drop that pipe in the ground than it is taking to erect 1 WTC and it is causing me an inconvenience as I travel around town. Since you know so much riddle me this my friend, why aren’t they doing this work at night under the bright construction lights like all of the other major work?

I do love to hear myself tap away on my ipad.

The inconvenience of progress does suck . We had to endure the water co installing a large new main through middletown which took a couple years .
My guess is, working the over night hours would add to the cost .
