“To date, the fund has distributed over $100,000 of assistance to affected residents of North Middletown, Port Monmouth, Belford, and Leonardo.  It is our hope that the Home Depot grant provided by the fund will help our most severely affected residents as they now begin the rebuilding process” said MDRF Chairman Tony Fiore.

“While every affected home has different needs, the Board believes Home Depot provides the necessary versatility to fill a variety of needs such as building supplies, appliances, and other goods necessary to help fill the gap in the rebuilding process.  Home Depot has also been a great community partner by supplying residents of our Bayshore with necessary supplies in the days that followed the storm.”

It's geared toward rebuilding. It's not your responsibility to rebuild your rental.

Hopefully you have contacted FEMA to get some money for your contents. If you did not do it right away. You wont get full price but it is better than nothing.

Look at how much money is in the relief fund and do the math. If they allowed everyone to apply who had a tree fall in their backyard, it would work out to about ten dollars per person. Trying thinking of those of us who really got hit hard and lost homes. Sad to see such selfishness in our town.

The areas targeted for funds were the hardest hit. As for the rest, that's why you and your neighbor have insurance. If the damaged items are not covered for the cost of repair, you have a beef with your insurance agent not the town.

Yes Tom awful. Awful that Mayor Fiore began a disaster relief fund. Awful that people from all over town donated money. Awful how people pulled together to help their fellow neighbors in their time of need. Awful how some people are so spoiled and ungrateful that even a generous gesture like this is criticized because it is "not enough.". Yup, awful.

The Middletown Disaster Refief fund is a indepentent non-profit organization deicated to ONLY Helping redsidents of the Bayshore Area!!~ Other residents of Middletown where "Hit Hard"! I think many would Qualifiy for most severely affected!! the trees that fell are~Considered a Act of God!~ so the insurance coverage is limited!! Your Lack of Compassion for others is visible!! I proudly post me name!! behind what I say!!` Have a good Day!

Gary!!` It sad how you disregard the damage to others!! I wish everyone the bes who has been hurt in anyway by the Stormt!! It isnt alittle tree that fell on my home or my car!! To make such a statement without the facts of what my damageis!! To appear as if you have knowledge is hollow!! I wish you the best!! I dont have to pull down someone who has suffered to prove my point!! Or to convinice others that I am right!! I know the facts an the truth!!!

The bayshore area of our township was hit the hardest. We all understand that everyone was affected one way or another by super storm Sandy. Some by flooding, wind or both. But you have to understand that the donations are being made available to the home owners of Port Monmouth, Belford, N Middletown and Leonardo because we were hit the hardest. There are still people displaced from their homes because there homes were destroyed. Be thankful that you still have a house to go home to. If your still in doubt about why all of Middletown is not receiving help from donations, take a ride down Main street, Monmouth avenue or Bray avenue in Port Monmouth and maybe that will change your mind.

There was no lack of compassion, in fact the converse. Let me repeat, in case you missed it: the money should go to the people that were the most severely affected as decided by the fund. I am supporting not second guessing their decision. When people hear "free money" it seems everyone is "hardest hit" eh, Nina? I had damage too - a lot of it. I am just not yelling "me, me, me." Try reading your insurance policies, particularly the debris removal clause. Also, the damage to your property from your neighbor is covered under their policy as damage to a third party. Then fight your insurance company who denied your coverage (unless you cheaped out on coverage, which is your fault.) "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

Why is there a $50,000. min damage required. my house had substantial damage. its smaller than all of the others. if the money is for the hardest hit then it should go by substantial damage 50 % or more and not total $ repairs. i know a lot of you are lucky to have a 2nd floor. I don't.

Additionally, "Publius" was good enough for several of our founding fathers when writing The Federalist papers (you may want to look that up). Does the truth and suggestion of accountability in my post bother you enough that you resort to personal attacks? Are you feeling slighted because others are getting money and you are not (or not getting more)? The latter, I submit, is truly lack of compassion. I agree with Mr. McGowan.

i agree, that in a public forum such as this, that all people should try to be civil and as best they can refrain from being terse and, to keep that in check, using your real name would help.

I agree Nina, there is no need to be gruff and sarcastic on such a forum as this.

Also, the FP were written for the betterment of society and the name was used to communicate that to the people. They were not hiding their identity.

Mr. Nemec, as the original Publius argued in Federalist No. 1, keeping one's identity concealed can force readers to focus on the quality of your arguments, rather than on personalities. It's harder to get ad hominem about a writer you can't identify. So a pseudonym can serve a good purpose in public discourse. The other reason is I wish to avoid having someone scratch my car, puncture my tires, overturn my garbage cans, destroy my mail box, or threaten me or my family for hearing views that they don't like, despite the guarantees of the First Amendment.

Dude, your misinformed. This is not the place for it. And your arguments loose all credbility because you seem to fancy yourself as a writer who possesses a quality ascerbic wit. HOWEVER you can continue as you wish, but, the fact that you hide gives you little to consider when responding, therefor any good you might have to contribute is lost. I think you sell yourself short. Anyone that ever had anything true and important to say gained the most by not hiding themselves.

Also ,Im pretty sure our fore fathers would have overwhelmingly trumpeted a well thought out persuasive argument void of personal attacks over anything else even if they disagreed. That, is nobel.
