The firefighter who was injured in Monday morning's blaze in North Middletown has been released from the hospital and is home recovering.

The firefighter, whose name has not been released, "was released from the hospital yesterday afternoon and is now home recuperating," Middletown Fire Department Spokesman John Isaksen said on Tuesday night. "It was a fall injury."

The firefighter was injured during the fire at a Thompson Avenue home which gutted the house, rendered its occupants homeless and sent the firefighter to Jersey Shore University Medical center for treatment.

The specifics on his injury were not disclosed. But, he is now doing fine, Isaksen said. 

The fire burnt away the majority of the first story of the two-story home, which sustained major structural damage and was deemed uninhabitable.

The fire's cause is being investigated by the Middletown Township Fire Prevention Bureau in conjunctio with the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s office.
