Middletown Police Car and Motorist Tangle in Accident on Tindall Road

Police say the 89-year old driver attempted to make a left turn into the high school's exit lane Monday, and hit the patrol car.

A police car was hit by a car driven by an 89-year old driver Monday morning outside Middletown High School North on Tindall Road at 7:03 a.m., just shortly before the venue opened for a huge water distribution effort during the boil-water advisory.

Sgt. Fred Deickmann said that Ernest Hall, 89 of Middletown attempted to make a left turn into the high school's exit lane, striking a police car being driving north by Ptl. Brian Dilworth, age 30.

Both drivers were transported to Riverview Medical Center. Ptl. Dilworth was released in the afternoon, but Hall was kept overnight. His condition was not known by police.

Sgt. Deickmann said an investigation into the accident is continuing.

Hundreds of local residents coming to pick up cases of drinking water at the high school saw the stunning sight of smashed cars pulled to the side of the road, awaiting tow-away.

We wish a speedy recovery to officer Dilworth and Mr. Hall. We're glad that none of the residents getting their needed water were injured.
