Middletown Woman Accused of Stealing Jewelry
A grand jury voted Wednesday to indict the woman on charges of theft and fencing.
Melissa Maletto, 32, of Kimberly Court in Middletown was indicted Wednesday on charges of theft and pawning stolen goods, stemming out of an incident that allegedly occurred in Middletown and Keansburg between Nov. 7 and 15.
A grand jury in Freehold decided that Maletto should stand trial for the alleged theft of a cache of jewelry valued over $500. Police say she later sold the stolen assorted jewelry.
Theft and fencing are considered third degree crimes, and can potentially lead to a 3-5 year prison sentence if a defendant is convicted.
An indictment is a formal charge by a jury, and not a conviction, and a defendant is assumed innocent until proven guilty.

I wasn't familiar with it either. Per dictionary.com:
"Informal. a person who receives and disposes of stolen goods."
Nothing about drugs.
