Speed Limit Changes in Marlboro on Route 79

Changes were made between Wyncrest Road and Ridge Road.

The NJ Department of Transportation (DOT) approved a speed limit change on Route 79 in Marlboro Township, between Wyncrest Road and Ridge Road.

The previous speed of 50 mph has been reduced to 45 mph. The NJ DOT signed off on the change on Jan. 4.

Marlboro residents have previously spoken out on Patch and at Township Council meetings about reducing speed limits on other township roads, including Union Hill Road.

The Marlboro Township Council approved a resolution supporting the change, after a resident complained about the speed.

Speed limit signs on the road will be replaced in the near future.

Well, maybe dropping it 10 mph instead of 5 would make a better impact. People drive 10 mph over the speed limit as a standard. Now, I will have even more people driving too close to me.

This is absolutely absurd. Vehicles now days are meant to be driven faster. They can accelerate, turn, and respond quicker and quieter than ever before. With these improvements we should RAISE THE SPEED LIMITS not lower them.

I think a bigger concern for me is the Generation X drivers getting too old to drive. With age they are loosing their vision and reaction times. More should be done to make sure that older individuals actually belong on the road,

I just returned from driving through that corridor and the speed limit sign has not changed. I wonder when the town plans to replace the sign? and how were the residents to be notified of the change?

Joy, the signs have not been replaced yet, so the change is not yet in effect. The announcement was made at several Town Council meetings and on the Marlboro Police Department website, I'm not sure if further notice is planned. But you always have Patch! :)

It is a county road. The town really has nothing to do with it. The council may make recommendations but it is up to the county to change the limit and the signs

There are alot of spots around town where the Speed Limit should be reduced. Way too much speeding especially by the younger folks on the main roads.

Why would residents be notified? Just be observant of the signs.

perhaps instead of posting lower speed limit on main arteries we should be more focused on educating folks on how to drive. You know put the cell phone down, stop smoking, eating, looking around, etc. Also how about my favorite NJ move take 5 minutes to pull away from a traffic light. Stop being so provincial Marlboro is a big town now and folks have places to go.

Mr Mirkin, you may be referring to me taking time to pull away from a traffic light. Due to the number of people who choose to run a red light, I make sure that I have clear access before I pull away. If it delays your trip by a minute or 2, so be it, I will continue to do exactly what I've been doing. So sorry,

How about Tennent Rd between the morganville post office and the morganville vol. firehouse the speed limit is 35mph and yet nobody does it. Commuters fly down tennent doing well over 50. There have been rear end accidents any many near misses because nobody wants to slown down on tennent to let us pull into our driveways.

Carol, I suggest that you get a hand-held air horn and blow all clear just to make sure the intersection is safe for you to pass. Better yet call the mayor maybe he put a cop at every intersection so you don't have to worry about crossing into the intersection until its been cleared. LOL!

I wish they would make Ridge Road an UP one way. That would alleviate the speeders DOWN Ridge Road and would cut back on people trying to turn right or left onto Route 79. The speeders are terrifying and really take away from the quality of life on Ridge Road.

This speed limit change is just window dressing for whoever was complaining. A speed limit change of 5 mph is really useless and will have no impact on the crash statistics. Tickets may go up but safety will not be increased. If another car or a person gets hit by a car going 45 or 50 it really doesnt matter.
