Township indoor swim pool for the schools to utilize for swim team water polo etc. instead of going to other towns for those sports. The size of the lot holds immense potential as a unique zone for the local schools and municipalities. A facility similar to the YMCA... Public yet profitable.
Just an alternative idea...

Instead of a deed restriction why doesn't the town do a land lease on the property and do a payment in lieu of tax type program. Then the township owns the property and controls what goes there forever without having to deal with any issues with the supposed deed restriction. Once the loan is paid off it would be a revenue stream for the township instead of a one-time sale.

Indoor swimming pool for school teams, ice hocky, PLUS U-turn access out of middletown post office.

Those people who came before us___our parents and grandparents back in the 1950's and 1960's managed to buy land and find money to build recreational facilities such as the Swim Club from the ground up way back when real estate taxes per home were on average only $500 per year. Yet today with every higher Real Estate taxes__the politicians pull from out pockets each year they cannot even maintain what was already bought and paid for decades ago. Once the Swim Club is gone__it is gone forever and it will never be back. With family incomes going down now and electric and water bills going ever higher in cost____ backyard swimming pools will be something less and less families can afford in the future. Admission to Sandy Hook beach is going up to $20 per car__which also makes the municipal swim club a better value now. If the town really needs to save money___then cut down on the number of councilmen by two positions. Do you know how much compensation the councilmen get???? Why not?

When money is tight in households, it's hard to justify a season membership to the club when analyzing a family's budget. I like the idea of indoor facilities. That way, it can be utilized all year round and make a profit all the time and get more attention from those who never found interest in the summer club. Our schools could then use the pools as well. An ice rink would have been nice, but the one in Red Bank is fairly close. I would love to see a rock climbing wall or something different.

Open a facility that the High Schools could use for there sports. Why should we pay other towns, put the money in our own pockets! Ice rink, swimming pool. Would be great. Than families can also use the facility on off days. Yes, red bank is close but why give them our money.im tired of Middletown having nothing for our students/kids.

I am with Paula Iskenderian Guglielmo and kelly, we need an indoor swimming pool and an ice rink for our school teams. The post office U-turn would be an excellent plus.

I hope Middletown has learned it's lesson and will stay out of what private industry does. If you want an indoor pool or ice rink, let private industry build it. If the Town Center had been approved we would have an ice rink in town as it was part of the project. However our brilliant town fathers denied the project. Many of town committee sitting up there today may not know this because they did not live here then, enough said.

We have an ice rink the size of Rockefeller Center's rink here in Avon, a one-mile square town. It's a boondoggle & attractive nuisance that attracts vandals. We'll gladly send it up to Middletown.
