Struggling To Find Permanent Housing? County Offers Help at Event Wednesday
Homeless Project Connect endeavors to count the homeless and inform them about county services and resources. The event will be in Red Bank, Freehold and Asbury Park.
People who are without a permanent residence, or at risk of becoming homeless, are invited to participate in Monmouth County’s 2013 Project Homeless Connect event at three locations on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
A team of volunteers and county staff will be in Asbury Park, Freehold and Red Bank to meet with people and encourage them to seek county services and resources.
- Red Bank — Pilgrim Baptist Church, 172 Shrewsbury Ave. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Asbury Park — Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, 701 Memorial Drive, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Freehold — New Beginnings Agape Christian Center,133 Throckmorton St., 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Those who participate will be asked to provide information and will be offered food, clothing and various services, including free health screenings and employment services.
The annual countywide event is designed to gather information about individuals who are experiencing homelessness, and offers information and services available through the county’s Department of Human Services, Health Department and nonprofit organizations.
In 2010, more than 600 people came to meet with staff in Red Bank.
This event coincides with the annual Point in Time Survey, a nationwide effort driven by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to get an accurate snapshot of the homeless in America. Project Homeless Connect fulfills the HUD requirement that the county complete such a count every two years.
