What Are You Giving Up for Lent?
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lent. What are you sacrificing this year?

Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday, makes up the most venerated days in the Christian Calendar. Ash Wednesday on Feb. 22 marked the beginning of the Lenten season when Christians are asked to prepare for the resurrection of Jesus Christ through repentance, prayer, atonement and self-denial.
It has become common for many Christians to sacrifice one vice they have during the Christian liturgical season.
So, what are you giving up this Lent? Really addicting reality TV? Chocolate? Alcohol? Words with Friends?

A friend posted on Facebook that instead of giving up sweets, she's going to try to do more good deeds for others. "The world needs more good deeds, kindness and sharing." So, I shall strive to be a better person and eat chocolate!

The point of the covenant in Lent is to make yourself more available to God's leading, so any activity (including gluttony for chocolate) that turns your head should be sacrificed. I have given up Facebook.

I feel responsible to say, not all Christians do this practice. This, I believe to be more of a Catholic practice. Yes, Catholicism is a branch of Christianity, but not all of it. I say this only to help understand that repentance of one's sins should be done daily as well as the evaluation and riddance of anything that becomes an idol before Christ in our lives. This is said only to clarify, not offend. Hope you all have a wonderful Resurrection celebration! and wish you well on your cleansing.
