These people should be ashamed of themselves. Middletown North alumni should be raising money for people in Middletown, not Union Beach. In case you haven't heard, Port Monmouth got hit really hard. Disgusting.

It is no ones right to tell people who they can offer help to.

As a Middletown North Alumni I too am disgusted. North has hundreds of Port Monmouth and North Middletown alumni who can use the help. I heard the reason this is happening is that the organizer who is a North alumni now lives in Union Beach. If true, more disgusting.

Port Monmouth which by the way, is in Middletown, has hundreds of people who went to North who are now without homes. Way more people than the entire town of Union Beach. Whatever happened to taking care of your own? And Tom, you may be ok with a Middletown group ignoring their own neighbors, but I am not. This stinks and I hope people from Middletown boycott this concert.

No thanks Very simple. Fill us in right here as to why a Middletown North alumni group is holding a fundraiser for another town and not their own fellow Middletowners. We paid the school taxes that gave them their education, not Union Beach.

Ok if you look at it thru a bigger lense then a magnifing glass, Union Beach FD & EMS has lost more then anyone in the Bayshore Area! Middletown FD didnt lose any fire trucks or Ambulances they did have 2 get flooded but they were back in the next day and where cleaned and gutted , Union Beach lost multiple buildings with alot of structual damage!and Is this such big deal with a Alumni Class of Middletown North holding a Benefit partnering with Restore The Bayshore ( Matawan PBA) for a FD & EMS that have lost more then any FD & EMS on the Bayshore Area. The VFW is the only location in the area that can hold more then 300 people and are paying for the hall for full price and also are hiring Middletown Police at full price and VFW is charging for food and drinks that go to the VFW not to the benefit, This is just a benefit to help them with repairs to thier buildings to help them get back in to them! from ticket sales and T-Shirts! Port Monmouth had a Organization Shores United Relief Foundation that came in a redid thier members room at no cost to the Fire Co on Jan 27,2013, this benefit is not for residents its to get 3 of the 4 Fire Companys and only First Aid in thier town and help to rebuild and repair thier buildings.

There is no explanation that would satisfy me. Middletown helps its own. Nothing against Union Beach but using Middletown North to raise money for Union Beach is nonsense. Now putting two and two together, I am not surprised. Isn't this the same guy who used Belford firehouse for Keansburg fundraising? Maybe he is trying to become Union Beach's Patch Person of the Year.

Hey Bob nice try! I held a Toy drive and the fire co joined in with my cause and it was for any family that had been displaced from Keyport to Sea Bright and the funny part people that said they had nothing never came and picked up thier toys for there kids! So try and get your information correct before you start bashing me!!!!

Why don't all of you big babies, who have nothing better to do, than sit and write comments to every Patch story, get off your lazy backsides and start organizing a fundraiser to help your neighbors. You have plenty to say, can you actually shut your lips, rest your keyboard fingers, and "Do" ????

Look at the BIG picture people.. we are ALL residents of the BAYSHORE. We are all helping each other. Yes Port Monmouth got hit hard.. I live here. But Union Beach looks like a war zone. Our Fire and EMS are up and running.... theirs is NOT. 3 months ago we ALL helped each other regardless of which bayshore town you were from. Funny how fast people forget.
Paul

And there are plenty of us in PORT MONMOUTH who have been hit hard and are still not back in our homes. Any fundraising efforts by Middletown North alumni should be for Middletown first. And I have supported a number of benefits already and will do more IF they benefit my home town.

Nobody is questioning doing a fundraiser to help Union Beach FD and EMS. Anyone from Middletown has the right to do what they want. Everyone is questioning using the Middletown North Alumni Association as a vehicle to do it. As a North Alumni, I think it would be better suited to use our Alumni Association to raise money for families who are affected in Middletown who are North Alumni.

Tom,no one is asking for that.I'm also an alum of Middletown HS(there was only 1 when I graduated),and would think that other alumni would support those in our own township 1st.Charity begins at home, especailly if they are using the name of a high school in the twp.
There is nothing wrong with helping our fellow Bayshore citizens in Union Beach. That's also a good cause.

Right B Bob. There are plenty of North alumni right here in Port Monmouth who lost everything. Any fundraiser run by the alumni association should be to help their fellow alumni first. All of the childish, silly comments by people like Tom cannot hide that fact.
Bob Banta
12:31 pm on Sunday, February 17, 2013
Kyle,
As long as you are pointing out facts, let's point out the fact that there is NO H.S. North Alumni group that represents all North Alumni. If the Class of '83 Alumni wants to do fundraisers for whatever reason for other towns when we have not only a Middletown Sandy Relief Fund but also a Middletown North Students Sandy Relief Fund, then so be it. Just identify who your group actually is as you do not represent the thoughts or share the concerns of the North Community or it's Alumni.

To ridicule a group being charitable because you or yours are not the recipients is disgusting.
You and your family should be embarrassed of the above comments.

Bayratt,
Why single out Paul as a "rude nasty person"? Plenty of the remarks here were ruder and nastier - Paul was just pointing out the fact that Tom had made a childish, silly comment and I agree with him on that. "Wah, wah", "Oh shut up". Maybe you should re-read Paul's comments and THEN decide who was being the "mean" one.

RTB ( Restore The Bayshore ) which is the Matawan PBA is in partnership with graduating people from Middletown North from Classes 85,86,87 that are trying to do a good thing ! And understandable why so many are upset it was worded wrong and have spent a few hours on the phone.

Kyle,
Thanks for calling and clearing some things up. I personally don't have a problem with anyone who wants to do a good thing for any person or group with a recognized need. I personally am concentrating my efforts on the over 1300 Middletown residents who sustained substantial damage and were displaced through the Middletown Sandy Relief Fund, as well as the over 80 families of current North students through the HS North Student Sandy Relief Fund that the HS North Booster Club set up that I am the current President of. We will not be able to meet all the needs of all the families, but is was great that we were able to purchase 9 laptop computers for students seriously affected by the storm and we have funds available to help more as their needs are identified. I just don't think it's fair or right that 3 people from 3 different graduating classes represent themselves as the North Alumni Association, or anything along those lines when they don't exist as an actual group or haven't even got the buy in of 2% of their graduating class, or any other class. Perhaps if it was originally listed as the Matawan PBA Fundraiser for Union Beach, headed by some former North Alumni, not so many feathers would have gotten ruffled. Again, my thoughts and focus on Middletown first are my own priority and not shared by all, but I am very clear about who and what exactly I represent and I just felt your group should too.

Paul...
you are ignorant. You are the a typical Middletown resident.. gimme gimme gimme.. waawaawaa.. please... there IS Nothing wrong with helping our neighbors out.. Middletown has had its share of Sandy Help for craps sake. They gave out target gift cards, food and clothing at the senior center, hell even the Amish were here in Port Monmouth helping out. Lets not forget about all the food that the firehouse handed out, and I could go on and on. Port Monmouth is doing MUCH better then Union beach, maybe you should try and go live there in a for a while, just hope there is no fire because there is NO FIRE equipment! . You seem to only care about you and yours. Come on out of your bubble.. I guess you don't want to help the Restore the Shore project either, because its not for Middletown.

Bayratt you are the one being rude and childish . Union beach got the same target gift cards, and all the other out of town help you mentioned.Port monmouth fire co suffered $250,000 worth of damage. The whole problem here seems to be wording which Bob Banta pointed out . Three people does not make up a group and they should not call themselves this group either . Like I said before . I know memebrs of port Monmouth fire co and they feel hurt and forgotten

I believe that helping Union Beach get its FD and EMT back up and running is a very good thing. Both for them and surrounding towns, including Middletown. Without UB getting back up, any fire or emergency there will have to be responded to by the surrounding towns. Conversely, once they are up again, they will be able to respond to fire or emergency in their neighboring towns as needed.
We all benefit, so I don't think it is important who is running the fund raiser, but that one is being run. Kyle I applaud your efforts.

Wow..Some of the comments here are downright troubling to read..Should it really matter who helps who? The only thing that helps is people that need help get it..I live in Middletown but have a few friends that live OR lived in UB that lost absolutely everything..Whats wrong with a fundraiser to help others? I hope everyone can come to tems with this so called "issue" and lots of money can be raised for those in need.
