Programmers Can Help Restore the Shore at Jersey Shore Comeback-a-thon

The hackathon event in Asbury Park comes with a $1,000 prize for the winning app developer.

Calling all app developers: your tech skills are needed to help restore the Shore business community. The Jersey Shore Comeback-a-thon will bring coders together at Cowerks in Asbury Park on Saturday for a 24-hour hackathon sponsored by Wall-based software company Marathon Data Systems. During a hackathon, developers have a set period of time to create a computer program or application that fits the event’s theme. Utility company petitioning state board for consumer rate increase

The state Board of Public Utilities is scheduled to hold a pair of hearings in Freehold Township on Wednesday on a proposed rate increase for Jersey Central Power & Light. The first meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Township Municipal Building, at Schanck and Stillwells Corner roads. The second meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the same location. The utility company, roundly criticized for its response during Hurricane Sandy and the nor’easter that followed, wants a rate increase of 4.5 percent in its effort to raise $603 million the company says it needs to repair infrastructure damaged in hurricane’s Sandy and Irene. Middletown Business-to-Business Night Planned for April 30

Informal Tuesday night networking and business card swap for Middletown merchants and service providers.

Middletown’s 5th Annual Business to Business Night will be held on Tuesday, April 30thfrom 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Middletown Arts Center, 36 Church Street. All Middletown business owners are invited to meet and network in a relaxed atmosphere with light fare from Chiafullo’s. Pink-up kits for businesses interested in participating in the Paint the Town Pink campaign will be available. The job fair for highschoolers will be held at Middletown HS North Wednesday night.

  Middletown's 22nd annual Youth Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, April 10 from 7 - 9 pm at Middletown High School North, located at 33 Tindall Road. In Belford, Pallone Talks About Throwing the Fishing Industry a Lifeline

Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. talked about a bill that could help the fishermen of the Belford Seafood Co-op, after Sandy.

With the Belford Seafood Co-op as a backdrop, U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (D-6th District) came to the Middletown shoreline Monday to talk about a bill that could help the storm-tossed fishing industry, still struggling to right itself after Sandy.  Pallone introduced today a federal disaster relief bill (NJ-06) to provide $193 million to fully fund the estimated cost to recover storm-affected fisheries in New Jersey and New York. New Jersey would get $121 million of that money.  The funding could be used by both commercial and recreational fishing industries --  to cover uninsured losses suffered during Hurricane Sandy, and to fix up marinas, rebuild public access docks for fishing, and rehabilitate bait and tackle shops.  "I don't…
