Monmouth County’s first Greentable meeting for 2013 will be held from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 5 in the Visitor Center at Thompson Park, 805 Newman Springs Road.
The meeting will provide Monmouth County residents and municipal officials with an overview of the Monmouth County Park System’s trail system and cover the timely topics of storm damage, public awareness and trail access.
Attendees will hear about new program ideas for trail adventurers, including trail amenities and points of interest that encourage trail users to take the trail less traveled. Global Positioning System (GPS) enabled map applications for cell phone and other handheld devices will be discussed along with the latest technology for computer savvy techno-heads: geocaching.
After the meeting, attendees are invited to experience hands-on GPS, apps and geocaching at Thompson Park. If you are interested, please dress for the weather.
Participating in the discussion will be representatives from the Monmouth County Park System who are responsible for the design, building, maintenance of more than 129 miles of trails that include the paved Henry Hudson Trial, the five-mile loop around the Manasquan Reservoir and natural surface, multi-use trails of Hartshorne Woods Park.
The Monmouth County Greentable is a periodic meeting of individuals, groups and government representatives who work together to preserve open spaces and farmlands. The group presents information about past, present and future local preservation projects as a way to share experiences, expectations and ideas.

Thompson Park
Located in Middletown's Lincroft area, Thompson Park serves as the administrative headquarters for the Monmouth County Park System. Park visitors can enjoy expansive fields and meadows, easy to moderate hiking trails, playground areas and regulation-sized athletic fields and tennis courts. The off-leash dog area features separate areas for large and small dogs. The park houses a reconstructed mansion which serves as the Visitor Center and program facility. The Crafts Center offers year round classes for all ages and skill levels. Visitors can cast their lines in Marlu Lake and picnic areas can seat as many as 125 guests.
