Local quilt shop supports “One Million Pillow Case Challenge” marathon for hospitalized children

 Abby’s Quilting Corner in Middletown is one of the sponsoring shops joining the America Patchwork and Quilting nationwide pillow case challenge.

The challenge is a 24-hour sewing marathon to help brighten the world of hospitalized children with colorful pillow cases.

 Abby’s will host The Nationwide Sew-A-Thon on September 19th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and September 20th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For the marathon, Donna Painter, the owner of Abby’s,  is supplying pillow case kits for a discounted $10 during the two days of the marathon.

To encourage participation, Painter is also offering prizes for early sign ups as well as quantities of pillow cases donated.

The prizes are

Free Apron to the first 5 to sign up.

1st place (15 or more) 6 fat quarters of your choice(one winner)

2nd place(10 or more) 3 fat quarters of your choice(one Winner)

3rd place(5 or more)receive an apron(3 winners)

This is not the first pillow case drive hosted by the quilt shop. In April and May, 67 pillow cases were created and donated to ConKerr Cancer, an organization which provides cheerful pillowcases for children stricken with cancer.

Painter invites those interested in the marathon to “Come and sew your stress away for a great cause.”

Abby’s Quilting Corner, located in the WOW shopping center on Route 35, offers a wide range of quality fabrics and quilting and sewing supplies. A broad selection of classes, ranging from beginner to advanced, are available during the week and on weekends

 

An active quilting program at the shop provides an opportunity for beginning to experienced quilters to hone their craft under the guidance and instruction of an experienced and award-winning quilter.

 

Painter also gives private instruction and has classes for children. Open sewing is available several times each week, a modern interpretation of the quilting circle. Upcoming classes include

holiday table runners, stocking stuffer throws, the traditional double wedding ring quilt, free motion classes, tee shirt quilts and more. The shop’s facebook page and webpage have more information. Have three hours? A three-hour, three fabric, three yards quick quilt class is scheduled for September.
