Strong finish for Trinity Hall at the Stewart Memorial Invitational

Elizabeth, NJ - September 28th, 2013 was a perfect day to race at Warinanco Park and the Trinity Hall freshman girls took advantage.

Middletown’s Trinity Hall, a new all-girls independent school in the Catholic tradition, faced some obstacles going into the Stewart Memorial Invitational. Not only was it their second race ever as a team and school, but two girls were out sick, leaving them with five. That meant every girl counted, and no one disappointed.

The girls took an opportunity to show everyone what Trinity Hall can do with an impressive third place finish, beating out 20 other teams. Trinity Hall’s top finisher for two weeks running, Caroline Gmelich, placed fourth with a time of 15:22, followed by Grace Modderman in 10th place with a time of  16:44. Malia Wolf finished 14th with a time of 17:24, followed by Holly Koerwer and Amelia Beibel both rounding out the top forty.

“The results are indicative of how hard these girls are working,” remarked head coach Tony Avalone. “At the St. Dominic’s Invitational [on September 14] our team took fifth place overall. Now we're third. We're closing the gap.”

Assistant Coach Katelyn Andree added, “Before every race, all I ask of the girls is to stay tough. I saw a lot of that today. They did exactly as they were asked—one of my favorite highlights being Grace Modderman’s strong finish, catching two Westfield girls down the last straightaway. We got third by two points. It’s that kind of determination and teamwork that’s going to bring us to the next level.”
