Carlo's Bakery Red Bank Opening Takes the Cake

One glance at the crowd on Broad Street in Red Bank today and you'd have thought there was a Boss sighting.

And there was — a Cake Boss sighting.

The crumb buns were in the oven, the icing was on the cake and Carlo's Bakery Red Bank officially opened it's doors for business Monday afternoon with the Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro, and family in the house and cutting the ribbon.

Judging from the fan base of a few hundred people who showed, you could say the bake shop is already cooking up a successful new base of operation.

"This is really going to raise the bar for Red Bank," Mayor Pat Menna said, before he took a trip into the kitchen with Valestro and crew. "It's going to be a wonderful addition. We really haven't had a full-scale bakery (with cakes, cookies, cannoli, pies) like this in some time."

Several officials from in and out of Red Bank were on hand, as were fans of all ages lined all the way down the street and pressed against the glass waiting their turn to get inside and buy something sweet.

Valastro posed for photos like a rock star and his family and employees continued to bake a serve up a storm of carefully crafted sweet stuff.

What's Rumson Mayor John Ekdahl's favorite baked good? "Cannoli!" he said peering at the case filled with cannoli shells.

As of about 8 p.m., the store was still packed.
