The donor or the amount of the gift was not named in a press release Friday afternon. But Mayor Tony Fiore said that information might be shared on Jan. 13, when its volunteers hand out the cards at the MAC.

Fiore is chairman of the The Middletown Disaster Fund, which was formed in the weeks after Sandy in an effort to formalize and organize a wave of goodwill towards residents. The independent, non-profit 501c3 is overseen by a board of various community members from business, school district and citizen groups.

"Aside from this gift card donation we're receiving, we have raised about $200,000," said Fiore. The money has flowed from personal donations, offerings from the business community, and residents.

"We're hoping to raise a couple of hundred thousand. We're still raising money."
