Outdoor Earth Day Activities April 20-21 in Middletown

Volunteer to clear a trail on Sleepy Hollow Road, shop for "recycled" goods in Lincroft, and our favorite: learn how to ID animal scat in Huber Woods.

Saturday, April 20

Middletown Township Earth Day Celebration

  • Volunteer: Help at one of three township parks from 10 am to 2 pm. Volunteers are needed to help with trail maintenance at the Coe Property located at 89 Sleepy Hollow Road; trail mapping and establishment at the Campo Property located near Cottage Gate, Rt 36 southbound and for park pick-up at the Lincroft Village Green on Newman Springs Road. Closed toed shoes are required. Bug spray, bottled water and gloves are suggested.   
  • Fun, Games and Education: From 4-7 p.m., head over to Poricy Park, 345 Oak Hill Road. The afternoon will include a musical performance by Miss Sherri featuring Go Go Green; gardening tips and money-saving hints provided by Rutgers’ New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station; native garden plant identification; the Follow a Drop of Water Workshop and Hike; a recycled arts and crafts display and workshop; and recycled games.  Free saplings will be given to the first 150 families. Recycling items to be collected at the event include electronics and crayons.

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Gardening vendors and displays including rain barrels, Jersey Fresh/Jersey Grown, and Wini Applegate of Bay Head who will host “Protecting our Aquatic Ecosystems.” Hosted by the Garden Club of New Jersey. At Colonial Nursery, 1124 West Front Street in Lincroft.

Monmouth County Parks System Earth Day events in Middletown

Celebrate the Shore    
Bayshore Waterfront Park Activity Center, Port Monmouth 
Discover cool coastal animals like whales, dolphins, crabs and even tiny plankton during this interactive show-and-tell program. Tours will also be given of the historic Seabrook-Wilson House, which dates back to the early 1700s.

Spring Plant Walks
Deep Cut Gardens, Middletown  
The flowers are back in bloom. Discover the park’s floral beauty, hidden places and native plants.  Find out how to become an earth-friendly gardener and ways to compost.

Snakes & Reptiles 
Middletown 
This family-oriented show features snakes and reptiles found in New Jersey. There will also be freshwater pond creatures on view and a chance to identify animal scat.
