Middletown Native Has the Swim of a Lifetime

Laura Picardo, who now lives in Manhattan, completed a 14-mile swim this week, going from the Tappan Zee Bridge to just shy of the George Washington Bridge.

Middletown native Laura Picardo completed a marathon swim this week, traveling one stroke at a time from the Tappan Zee Bridge to just shy of the George Washington Bridge. Here she recounts the experience:

I grew up in the AH/Navesink section of Middletown and currently live in Manhattan. I am actually planning to swim to Sandy Hook next summer so I could say I "swam home."

This swim was amazing! It was my first official marathon swim (anything over a 10K) and I had a blast, despite having to be pulled 1 mile from the finish due to dwindling conditions. It was Stage 6 of the 8 Bridges Swim.
