Residents Celebrate the End of Middletown Water Main Work

Residents gathered at the Lincroft Firehouse last week to celebrate the end of the area water main work.

Area residents inscribed their names on a piece of history last week as they said goodbye to the last piece of pipe from the old water main construction project.

Construction on the 10-mile long project along Middletown-Lincroft Road began in 2008, but planning began even before then in 2004. Eight years later, the last piece of the original project was put on display at the where residents were invited to learn more about the benefits of the project and sign a piece of local history.

“Thank you residents in Middletown and surrounding towns,” said Mayor Anthony Fiore at the event. “This project has been one of perseverance but it will be well worth it since it will prevent water main breaks during the summer months.”

In addition to Fiore speaking at the event, attendees heard from Fire Chief Andrew Spears and representatives of New Jersey American Water Company who were available to answer questions about the completed project. Participants were also encouraged to take a pledge to become a responsible water user.

The completion of the project signifies the replacement of systems installed in the 1950s. The new water main makes it possible for the community to achieve peak demand as high as 80 million gallons of water per day.
