Sea Gulls' Nest Restaurant On Sandy Hook Is Not Re-Opening

The popular longtime outdoor eatery on Sandy Hook known as Sea Gulls' Nest will not re-open, according to Daphne Yun, a spokesperson for Gateway National Recreation Area.  

Patch has confirmed the report, posted yesterday on HighlandsBlog.

An appreciation of the Sea Gulls' Nest -- its overpriced hot dogs, breathtaking views and sense of belonging -- has been posted by Art Gallagher on his site, MoreMonmouthMusings. "The Sea Gull’s Nest, Eddie, his wife Natalie, daughter Tina Cros, and son Scott will long be remembered for the special experiences they provided so many at Sandy Hook," wrote Gallagher. 

The Sea Gulls' Nest was badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy in October, 2012 and has remained closed since. Yet, locals held onto hope for its re-opening. But an article in the New York Times in August, 2013 revealed the huge mountain of difficulties and red tape the Segall family was battling.  

For many, the Sea Gulls' Nest was a casual place to satisfy hunger and have a cold drink with family and friends after a day of swimming, sunning, fishing or biking. Others were moved by Ed Segall's unique tradition of leading patrons in a nightly patriotic observance as the sun set to the song God Bless America.
