Walk the Hook on New Year's Day

All invited to American Littoral Society's free New Year's Day beach walk on Jan. 1

The is welcoming the public to join its staffers on its annual New Year's Day Beach Walk to the tip of .

The trip on foot, described as a "brisk walk" in the notice posted on the organization's website, kicks off at 11 a.m. on Sunday from the society's headquarters inside Building 18 in Sandy Hook's section (18 Hartshorne Drive). Walkers will then accompany society hosts to the end of the peninsula.

After strolling back to society headquarters, walkers are welcome to stay for hot chocolate or cider and a hot dog. Participants are also encouraged to bring any "holiday finger desserts" to be shared with others according to the organization website.

From its Sandy Hook base, the society focuses on educating the public about conservation and environmental issues impacting the local coastal areas, the website states.
