Who's Middletown Township's Person of the Year?

TIME magazine named President Obama their person of the year for the second time. Tell us who you think should win from Middletown!

On Dec. 19, Time magazine named President Obama their Person of the Year, again!

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including the president, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. But, the President took the title again four years after he first won the award as President-elect in 2008.

So how about here at home? Who is Middletown Township's Person of the Year—the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

Tell us about your pick in the comment section below!

> Middletown Twp Person of the Year should be Mayor Anthony Fiore. He has
> shown tremendous leadership in helping our community recover from Superstorm > Sandy. He is knowledgeable, forthright and comforting to those of us who are > so dependent on local government for direction and assistance. >

I agree that Mayor Fiore has been a terrific leader.
While not nearly as well-known to most M'town residents is Middletown High School South football coach Steve Antonucci. He continues to teach his players the meaning of responsibility, accountability, and dedication. Thanks coach.

Kyle bracken station 5 east keansburg fire dept. for starting a middletown news Facebook page. That really informed us all as it happened during superstorm sandy.letting everyone know what's going on, about food, clothing, shelter. Also started a local toy drive that over the top warmed my heart with the response it got. A volunteer firefighter that was never asked to do it, he just did it! He really cares for the town and the people that live in it! That's why I think Kyle bracken gets my vote !

Kyle Bracken Station 5 East Keansburg. Wonderful person, was huge during Sandy. Volunteer firefighter who headed a small toy drive that grew beyond belief and helped all of Middletown, not just East Keansburg.

Kyle Bracken gets my vote. Kyle goes above and beyond for Middletown from starting a facebook page "Middletown you see it you post it" where we were all kept up to date with what is going on in town, he organized a toy drive to help the children from the bayshore are who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. All of this while working fulltime and also being a volungteer firefighter here in Middletown. Kyle Bracken is definately Middletown's person of the year!

Kyle went out of his way to help me and keep me informed as to what was happening in that town so that I was comfortable knowing my daughter was okay....He goes above and beyond his call of duty.

Kyle Bracken Station 5 East Keansburg. He was extremely informative during hurrican Sandy and continues to inform, volunteer and care deeply for his town. Through his leadership, a huge toy drive was created for all the children who were victims of Sandy. He is an extremely selfless person who was very much hands on when his town needed him most. He made us feel safe an informed and brought hope to a lot of people who were facing their darkest of days.

I never heard of this guy above but it sounds like someone is doing a campaign for the guy as every message starts the same. I agree with the other posters before and would vote for the Mayor.

I also have to put my vote in for Mayor Fiore. It is so rare to have so many good things to say about an elected official but in his case the list goes on and on. He was excellent with the storm, but we can't forget everything else he's done for the town. Just talk to anyone from towns outside of Middletown and you'll appreciate just how lucky we are.

I Vote Kyle Bracken Station 5 East Keansburg. Not Only A Big Help During Sandy... He Also Put Others Needs Before His Own.......
Belford Bob January 3, 2013 at 01:42 am
Thanks for the link to the page. No disrespect to Mr. Bracken who seems like a very selfless guy but I know 10 others just like him that are no different. How about those 4 women who are at Croydon Hall every day and were passing out meals in Port Monmouth? I'm sorry but setting up a facebook page of copying and pasting doesn't get my vote here.

Sorry, but Kyle Bracken may have HELPED with a toy drive, but it was run by Jill Topolewski. Give credit where credit is due.
Chrissy January 3, 2013 at 02:20 am
Um no it was started by Kyle Bracken & the ladies auxiliary from Belford Independent, including Jill Topolewski, chimed in to help. Give credit where it is due. Kyle brought it up while we were coming to the end of our 180+ hour stand-by at the firehouse. They all did a great job giving over 400 children in the area a Christmas that almost didn't happen.
Donna K January 3, 2013 at 02:32 am
Kyle did more than work with the people of Middletown, He also arranged for over 2000 toys from Maine and relief supplies for the people in the Bayshore from as far south as SC. He also did what was needed to get Christmas to over 450 children while working with several others, including Jill T and Cindy B and he did not want credit for any of it.

My vote is for Kyle bracken. He is not only a volunteer firefighter but a person who would give his shirt of his back. He along with the help of other put together the toy drive and gave A wonderful Holiday to families who didn't think they were going to have one.

It has been through continual information and communication from Kyle Bracken, on his MIddletown FB page, that the community is made aware of what is going on in town. During the storm, Kyle spent his time devoted to helping the people of the Bayshore Area. He was also a key player in organizing and carrying through with having a toy drive that brought many smiles to the faces of the local children, whom otherwise may have had a bleak Christmas. . His good example of community inspired my son and I to conduct a toy drive in our area and deliver a truck load of toys to the Belford Firehouse in mid-December. Besides holding a full time job and having a family, he volunteers countless hours to Station 5 protecting and serving the community and keeping them safe. Although the Mayor sounds like a good man for the nomination, it is an elected office. Whereas what Kyle does is all volunteer and he spends his time unselfishly for his community. My vote for Middletown Person of the Year goes to Kyle Bracken !

I too vote Kyle Bracken. I have never communicated with him. Thankfully, I didn't need storm assistance as my home was spared terrible damage. I do know that I read this guys facebook page everyday. I know he gave his time selflessly during and after the storm as many of us did. But when it was time to get back to work, this man's mind stayed in disaster mode. It would be a terrible disaster if the children affected here could not have a lively Christmas. I know that 400 families had a Christmas because of this man and his leadership skills. He had hundreds of people helping and donating. Each and every night AFTER work he collected toys, organized gift wrapping seasions, a giant party and all the while was sure to document it. Kyle Bracken. Fire fighter and Middletown's person of the year.

Campaign? (I'll get back to that) I never wanted to hold a p#ssing contest. The toy drive aside,But, we never heard the mayor' s announcement's as we had no power, no wifi, and very limited cell service. Note: make your website smart phone friendly:, more bandwidth ,or more server juice:.we got all of our info. Thru Kyle. I'm sure that the mayor is a good man.and did a good job or did his job good.this disaster brought out the best in a lot of us and made us better people. Neighbor helping neighbor. Kyle showed us that.as far as (a campaign) there is no prize here,no key to the town,no plague or statue. Only to acknowledge and praise the hard work Kyle did.

My 9th Great Grandfather Thomas Whitlock is buried in the Old First Baptist Church yard. I was honored to stand on the porch of the home he helped build and lived in at Shoal Harbor.
