Middletown Resident Stars in Heartwarming Play TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE.

Learning Life’s Lessons through Laughter & Love
Center Players Brings the Best-Selling Book
“Tuesdays with Morrie” to the Stage.

Mitch Albom’s extraordinary, best-selling book Tuesdays with Morrie comes to life in a powerful stage play. The production will open at Center Players, Freehold’s resident award-winning dessert theatre company, on June 1st for a three week limited engagement through June 17th. Tuesdays with Morrie is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished and career-driven journalist, and Morrie Schwartz, his former Brandeis University professor and mentor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie's appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig's Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life. This emotional, touching, and insightful play is sure to leave you smiling as life’s lessons are pondered through laughter and love.

Tuesdays with Morrie is headlined by Center Players favorites Bill Lee, of Middletown, as Morrie Schwartz and Anthony Greco, of Oakhurst, as Mitch Albom. Audiences have seen Mr. Lee regularly since the very first season at Center Playhouse in 2001, some of his performances include Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Beauty Queen of Leenane, 12 Angry Men, The Heiress, and this fall in The Passion of Dracula. Mr. Greco is a board member at Center Players and has appeared onstage in Lost in Yonkers, Barefoot in the Park, The Heiress, and How the Other Half Loves but many know Greco for his productions of 20th Century, 12 Angry Men, Doubt, and It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play all of which he directed.

"It is a poignant and heartwarming story that really reminds you what a profound impact teachers, mentors and loved ones have on our lives" said the production’s director. This ambitious project is directed by Carla Zackson Heller, of Union Beach, who has both appeared in and directed productions at Center Players, including last summers’ hit Sylvia, and recently has directed productions throughout NJ including Jacques Brel is Alive & Well and Living in Paris, Bell Book & Candle, Cactus Flower, and Rumors.
