The best family entertainment deals in Monmouth County

Despite the rainy weather we've been experiencing, don't think you can't head out and plan activities outdoors. There are many exciting things coming up in Monmouth County free or limited cost that are perfect for families.

We've done the legwork for you and came up with five upcoming events to show your brood a good time. Remember to keep those ideas and posts coming about happenings in your area. We'd love to hear from you.

Miss Sherri And The Little Animal Band, LIVE!
  • Middletown Arts Center, Middletown

A high-energy, fun family show by the beloved Miss Sherri and her exciting Little Animal Band heads to the Middletown Arts Center on Saturday, May 21 at 11 a.m. This hip kids rock show will entertain your little ones and you for a price that won't break the bank. Tickets cost $12.

Kimisis Annual Greek Festival

The Kimisis Annual Greek Festival is the most fun you'll have outside of Athens. The event is held at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday, June 9 through Sunday, June 12. There are amazing shows, lots of yummy food and pastries, and handcrafted Greek gifts to buy. Riverfest Food and Music Festival
  • Marine Park, Red Bank

Riverfest Food and Music Festival will return to the Red Bank area from Friday, June 3 to Sunday, June 5. Get ready for a full weekend of food and entertainment, come rain or come shine. Red Bank area restaurants will have their signature dishes and festival food favorites on display. Two stages will feature non-stop entertainment from the area's hottest performers and Artisan’s Alley will showcase handmade items and artwork as well as Navesink River cruises and rides. Games and activities for kids make Riverfest an event for everyone.

Freehold Idol

  • Hall of Records, Downtown Freehold

Beginning Wednesday, June 5 Downtown Freehold and Monmouth Academy of Musical Arts will hold the fifth annual Freehold Idol contest. The event will take place every Wednesday during the summer through August 24 in front of the Hall of Records at 7 p.m.

Listen to the most talented men and women in three age groups competing to become the next Freehold Idol. Talented singers ages 10 and up are given the spotlight to show off their vocal abilities in this very popular singing contest that draws warblers from all over the state.

Much like the renowned TV talent contest, singers are judged each week and the winners to a final round where the top three vocalists are awarded prizes. Visit downtownfreehold.com.

Manalapan Under The Stars
  • Manalapan Recreation Center, Manalapan

Head to the Manalapan Recreation Center (New Expansion Area) on Saturday, June 11 at 4 p.m. for the town's summer kick-off event. Bring your family, neighbors and friends for an evening of great food, entertainment, exhibits, displays, vendors and children’s rides. The event concludes with a spectacular fireworks finale. The Main Stage entertainment will feature Gary Puckett and The Union Gap Band.  Additional acts scheduled include Manalapan Varsity Cheerleaders, ICON Dance Complex, Speed Limit Band and Elite ZUMBA, all hosted by our Master of Ceremonies, Tommy G.
