Over the River and into Red Bank for Theater, Music

Fab Faux at Count Basie Theater; 'An Evening in Paris' at Two River

This week at Count Basie, relive the magic of The Beatles when The Fab Faux takes the stage on Saturday, June 25th. The Fab Faux is a Beatles tribute band and the closest thing one can get to the enchanting experience that was The Beatles.

The group was founded by Will Lee, best known as the bassist for The Late Show with David Letterman. It features Jimmy Vivino (bandleader from Late Night with Conan O’Brien), Rich Pagano, Frank Agnello and Jack Petruzelli. Proceeds from Saturday’s show will go to the Count Basie Foundation.

The Fab Faux try to keep their performances as accurate and as close to the real thing as they can possibly get. They have been known to perform with a horn and a string section to achieve a more authentic sound. They also frequently play shows revolving around a “theme,” for example, playing all of The Beatles psychedelic music or all the songs from one particular album.

The Fab Faux also performs original music, many times incorporating it into a show once they are done playing Beatles tunes. Their music was featured on a CD that showcased original music by Beatles tributes bands, recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

The band was featured in a 2005 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, where they were referred to as “the greatest Beatles cover band.” Author David Fricke wrote that they “invigorate the artistry of even the Beatles most intricate studio masterpieces.”

The Fab Faux has performed on The Howard Stern Show, The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.  Their live performances often feature special guest stars, such as Joan Osborne and Trey Anastasio.

This Saturday also brings Two River Theatre’s Annual Gala to Red Bank. This year, the theme is “An Evening in Paris,” and the black tie event is sure to be filled with fun and romance.

The annual gala is Two River’s biggest fundraising event of the year. The 2009-10 benefit gala raised approximately $240,000 to help support the theater. “An Evening in Paris” will feature dinner by Restaurant Nicholas, Middletown, a silent auction and music by the Jazz Lobsters.
