Vendors Needed for 'Made in Monmouth'

The second annual event is set for September, but vendors can apply now.

The county is seeking vendors for its second annual Made in Monmouth event on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Monmouth University in West Long Branch.

The first event was held in March 2012 to draw attention to businesses that manufacture products locally and to give people the opportunity to shop local.

“Monmouth County has a long and rich heritage producing goods and services,” Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone said in a press release issued by the county. “From our earliest days of lumber, food, iron and boat building to today’s high-tech graphics and the arts, Monmouth County has always been creative and productive, bringing top-quality merchandise to markets here and around the world.”

Keyport was home to Aeromarine, which converted military aircraft to civilian service beginning in 1921, according to the release. Some of the nation’s largest uniform manufacturers were in Red Bank, Long Branch and Neptune City. A Wall Township Company made NASCAR racecars. One of the most successful engine builders for custom cars, trucks and hot rods is in Freehold.

“Today, Monmouth County produces sophisticated custom motorcycles, emergency vehicles, coffee, specialty teas and much more,” Arnone said. “I’m proud that our residents can be creative and prosper while giving consumers the option of shopping locally.”

Grow Monmouth, a team within the county’s Division of Economic Development, created Made in Monmouth. The team meets with business, civic and government leaders to provide information services and help to create and preserve jobs in Monmouth.

The day will feature items such as jewelry, bagels, orchids, surfboards, handmade glass, honey cosmetics, flags, beer, chocolate, tea and more.

Producers and manufacturers can register online at visitmonmouth.com or contact Economic Development at 732-431-7470 for more information.
