Trooper Injured in Parkway Crash

A New Jersey state trooper was injured in an accident on the Garden State Parkway in Middletown on Sunday.

The officer was travelling southbound in the express lanes and attempting to locate a car at 12:45 p.m. when he encountered slowed traffic from an unrelated car accident, said Sgt. Brian Polite of the New Jersey State Police (NJSP).

A black Chevy Suburban came to a complete stop in front of the trooper's car. The NJSP car struck the Chevy from behind at mile marker 110.4, Polite confirmed.

The officer was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was treated and releases. The driver of the Chevy received treatment at Riverview Medical Center and was also released. The injuries sustained by both were minor, Polite said.

No summonses were issued at the scene. The accident is still under investigation, Polite said.
