Middletown Offers Grief Counseling Following Death of 12-Year-Old Student

The school district will offer services Wednesday night at Village School.

The Middletown Township School District will offer grief counseling services Wednesday night for those affected by the sudden death of 12-year-old Alexis Mason.

Mason suffered a cardiac episode while at a St. Mary's Travel Soccer Club practice at the Sunnyside Recreation Area on Tuesday.

"I regret to inform you of the tragic and sudden death of a Thompson Middle School student that occurred last night," Middletown Superintendent William George said in a statement sent out to parents, posted on the district website and shared with media. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this young student."

The district coordinated grief counseling for students, staff and community members at Middletown Village School from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. Additional counseling will be available as needed, George said.
