For After the Ferry Ride: NY Waterway Customer Offer

Real-Time GPS Locator Tracks Free Shuttle Buses in New York, New Jersey

In case you didn't see Patch's and a day in the life of a commuter on NY Waterway's ferries to and from New York City, take a look at our slide show featuring a snapshot of the morning to night commuting experience. Ferry Capt. Mike Kahn (shown in sunglasses) gave some insight about his job and experiences driving the boats, as did the ferry terminal manager and commuters out of Belford.

NY Waterway has since offered information about its new method for assisting patrons. The released information follows:

NY Waterway has announced that it is the first transit system in the New York-New Jersey Metropolitan area which allows customers with computers, smart phones and other hand-held devices to track the exact location of any NY Waterway bus in New Jersey or New York.

As part of the ongoing efforts to offer the most convenient commute possible, the Bus Locator allows NY Waterway riders to track how close a bus is to their current location.  Continuously updated maps of 10 New Jersey and New York bus routes, with highlighted streets signifying a specific bus route, use large arrows to indicate the location and direction of a bus. With buses running regularly throughout the day, the real-time maps take the guess work out of travelling.

The free buses serve the Port Imperial Ferry Terminal in Weehawken with four routes including JFK Boulevard East/NungessersINTRA-Site North Shuttle Bus, INTRA-Site South Shuttle Bus and the Weehawken Town Route.

Routes serving Manhattan’s West 39th Street Ferry Terminal include  57th Street, 49th/50 Streets, 42nd Street, and 34th Street, and a special Downtown loop, making them the best choice for commuters or tourists. The buses can be caught at any NYC bus stop on their route.

With the distinctive red, white and blue buses running regularly during rush hours, and at varying intervals during off-peak travel times and weekends, catching one is the easiest and most cost effective way to reach the terminals. The Bus Locator system will make this already convenient feature even more passenger-friendly.

NY Waterway – which continues to be the most hassle free way to travel between New Jersey and New York – is the only area ferry service offering free land transportation on both sides of the Hudson River. Ferries operate Monday through Friday from all terminals, with select locations providing additional weekend service.
