Originally formed in California, TACA made its move to New Jersey four years ago. Melody Benbow, New Jersey Chapter Co-Coordinator of TACA, joined the cause on behalf of her 5 year old son, Calvin.

“Many times when a child is diagnosed with autism, families are told that there is nothing that can be done for their child. TACA lets these families know that they are not alone by giving them support.”

Steve Massell, Middletown Deputy Mayor, Dr. Dave Dornfeld, a local doctor that cares for autistic children, and Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home staff were all present at the check presentation yesterday. According to Benbow, the $1,000 donation given by the memorial home will be broken up into smaller grants and will go directly to help local families.

“This donation will help support families so they don’t have to choose between therapy and paying their mortgage. It can help families with everything from medical funding, to legal issues, to school issues and even the insurance side of things.”
