NY Waterway Ferry Commuter App for Ease on Seas

App is free and designed to streamline ticketing, messaging

Ferry commuters can now use a new app to navigate smoother sailing with scheduling, ticketing and more.

NY Waterway, the operator of the commuter ferry service out of the in , has announced that it has released a “100 percent smart device-based app that incorporates payment and ticketing, all in one,” a statement from the company said.

With the app, conventional ticketing is no longer needed. “Your smart device becomes your mobile ticket purchasing option and your boarding pass,” said Paul Goodman, CEO of NY Waterway’s subsidiary Billybey Ferry Company in a released statement.

The system is equipped with unique security that enables streamlined ticket validation without having to use code scanners or similar devices.

With the app, Waterway ferry customers can purchase, use and store tickets and monthly passes on their smart phones and iPads. The app also allows patrons access to ferry schedules, emergency advisories, ferry maps for the East and Hudson rivers, bus connection status and Waterway social networks, YouTube, foursquare and Flickr.

Created by mobile commerce company, Bytemark, the app is free and can now be downloaded from Waterway’s Web site at www.nywaterway.com as well as the standard iTunes App Store and Andriod Marketplace.

“NY Waterway is thrilled to bring this newly developed technology to our customers to make ticket-buying more seamless, and so we can get them to where they need to go more efficiently,” Billybey said.

NY Waterway has been operating out of the since it was opened in 2002. Though the terminal and surrounding land are owned and maintained by Monmouth County and was built with county and federal funds, Waterway provides the ferry service, transporting approximately 1,000 commuters to and from New York City and providing recreational trips on occasion on weekends.
