Congressman Pallone Announces $1.1 M in Federal Funds to Repair the Sayreville Pump Station after Sandy

LONG BRANCH, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) on Monday announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved $1.1 million to repair the Sayreville Pump Station, which was badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Congressman Pallone’s Congressional District includes Sayreville and much of Middlesex County, which is served by the pump station.

FEMA will reimburse the Middlesex County Utilities Authority $1.1 million, or 75 percent of the cost to repair the damaged pump station and install and operate a surge diversion facility to minimize surges to the pump station in the event of a future storm. The station pumps sewage from 30 municipalities in Middlesex and Somerset Counties.

“As we rebuild after Superstorm Sandy, we have a unique opportunity to improve our public infrastructure so it is stronger and can withstand future storms,” said Pallone. “I am grateful that FEMA recognizes the importance of repairing and improving this pump station and I will continue to fight in Congress for adequate relief funds to help our communities recover after the destruction of Sandy.”

The funding for this project was allocated through FEMA’s Public Assistance program. This cost-share program reimburses local and county governments for disaster-related costs including emergency protective measures, debris removal and public infrastructure repair or replacement.
