Rep. Pallone Announces $1.6 Million FEMA Grant for Marlboro

LONG BRANCH, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today announced that Marlboro Township was awarded $1.6 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reimburse the town for debris removal following Hurricane Sandy.   Belmar will also receive $4 million from FEMA for debris removal.

FEMA awards these Public Assistance grants on a rolling basis after receiving applications from the state, which coordinates the process with local governments. The grants represent 75 percent of the costs incurred by the townships. FEMA also awarded $3.5 million to the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management for use of force account personnel, equipment and contractors to respond to the disaster.

“Our townships responded quickly and responsibly after Superstorm Sandy so their residents and roadways would be safe,” said Pallone.  “This FEMA funding will pay for a significant portion of the extra expenses from the historic storm so the towns will have the funds they need to move forward and rebuild.”

A $50.5 billion Sandy relief package was signed into law by President Obama this week. Pallone advocated strongly for a robust emergency supplemental appropriations bill to help New Jersey recover and rebuild from the devastating effects of the storm.

“Now that the relief package is finally signed into law, I look forward to a swift process for distributing the funds so New Jerseyans can quickly receive the resources needed to build back stronger than ever,” Pallone added.
