Long Branch, NJ – At the “Rebuild the Shore” Veterans Job Fair today in Long Branch, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) met veterans looking for employment, discussed issues they are facing and talked about ways he can help.
“Our men and women in uniform represent the best of our country, and helping our returning veterans get back to work must be a top priority,” said Pallone. “These men and women who have served our nation in uniform are highly-skilled and have demonstrated enormous leadership. After sacrificing so much for our country, they deserve the best opportunities and shouldn’t have to fight to get a job back home.”
G.I. Go Fund hosted the "Rebuild the Shore" Veterans Job Fair to help military personnel and veterans looking for work after many of their lives were disrupted by the devastation of Superstorm Sandy. Veterans were able to meet with employers, support service agencies, and colleges who spoke with the veterans about new possibilities for their futures.

Pallone supported the VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011 that provides a $5,600 tax credit to employers who hire veterans that have been unemployed for 6 months or longer. Before this law took effect, the average unemployment rate for veterans who served after September 11th was a staggering 12.1 percent. Now the rate for veterans returning home has dropped to 7.5 percent.
“Congress must continue to work to support our troops and make sure that they get the critical services they need to get back on their feet after their service to our nation,” Pallone added.

This week commemorates the fourth anniversary of the Post 9/11 GI-Bill, a bill that provides our service members with comprehensive educational support through tuition, books and housing allowance.
Members of Congressman Pallone’s staff, including Sgt. John J. Irwin III from the Wounded Warrior Fellowship Program, regularly assist veterans from the district with disability claims, benefits, and other important services.
More than 440 thousand veterans call New Jersey home, and more than 1,300 troops from the state are currently deployed.
