High Winds, Coastal Flood Warning For Middletown Area

Snow is possible Wednesday evening.

Old Man Winter is in no hurry to leave the Middletown area. 

The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting that the next few days in will be messy ones with a combination of blustery cold winds, snow and rain headed our way.

As of the NWS's Tuesday 4 p.m. briefing, the area along the Raritan Bay is being cautioned to anticipate minor widespread coastal flooding Wednesday night, with pockets of major flooding possible.

High tide at Sandy Hook is Wednesday, 2:58 p.m and Thursday, 3:31 a.m.

Storm force winds may gust up to 60 mph right on the coast, with gusts 35 to 45 mph further inland.

Middletown Township Office of Emergency Management issued a weather alert saying, "Take all necessary precautions including moving vehicles to higher ground."

Impacts can include roads closures at high tide, dune breach and damage to vulnerable structures on the shore.

The forecast, as of Tuesday 5 p.m.: 

  • Wednesday Night: Snow and wind gusts as high as 45 mph. Three to five inches possible.
  • Thursday Possibility of snow before 11am, then a chance of rain. Wind gusts as high as 40 mph. 
  • Thursday Night A chance of rain before midnight, then a chance of snow. Winds gusting to 37 mph. 
  • Friday: A chance of snow before 9am, then a chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 45. 

On a hopeful note, Saturday's forecast is sunny, with a high near 48.
