Jazzin' Up in M'town: Jazz & Blues Fest
The Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation produced the event for the first time at the Middletown Arts Center
Despite heat advisories and heat indexes peaking over a 110 degrees on Saturday, the 1st annual Middletown Jazz & Blues Festival played it cool and played on at the Middletown Arts Center.
Drawing crowds like only malls, pools and area beaches have over the last week, the first-time event in Middletown was a hot success. The crowd collected under the shade of trees and umbrellas, withstanding the swelter and enjoying the music. At mid-day diehards were sun bathing and dancing in the full glare.
"It's music ... live music that brings people out," Dan Dubbs, of Middletown, said. "Throughout history, no matter what the conditions, cold, rain, heat, lightning, no matter...people come out for music."

Patch correspondent Steve Rogers brought his "About Town" video series from its usual haunt over the river in Red Bank to Middletown to take in the music and to ask festival attendees what music does for them and why it is so important to us all.
