Littoral Society: 'Sharing the Shore'

The American Littoral Society is sponsoring the shore-wide event to celebrate things people love about the shore.

The American Littoral Society, based on Sandy Hook, is celebrating its 50th anniversary by inviting anyone and everyone from Montauk to the Delaware Bay to participate in its Share the Shore event this Saturday.

Shore lovers, beach walkers, surfers, fishermen, divers, and others will join together to show the world how and why they love the shore, and to promote efforts that protect the ocean and our valuable coastlines. Share the Shore is the theme for dozens of smaller events that have been participant-created and planned.

Locally, events are taking place along the Navesink River on the Red Bank side, and at locations in Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, Long Branch, Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver, Oceanport and along the Shrewsbury River.

The Littoral Society, along with help from event goers who will take photos and videos, will link together all participating sites by creating a virtual tour of the coast and sharing it online, a tour it hopes will send a message about the importance of caring for the cost.

The American Littoral Society has spent the last 50 years promoting the study and conservation of marine life and its habitats, defending the coast from harm, and empowering others to do the same.
