Veterans Day Parade: A Patriotic Picture

A perfect show of Americana celebrates veterans at the 54th Annual Veterans Day Parade in Middletown.

Visions of a Norman Rockwell America were on parade in Middletown on Sunday at the 54th Annual Veterans Day Parade.

Patriotism, wholesome values, respect for the fallen and elderly, pride in the talents, energy and enthusiam of youth, golden retrievers, boys with freckles, girls in pigtails and lollipops and candy bars flying through the air were the snapshots of the day, the very idyllic image and imagery that our nation's veterans serve and continue to serve to preserve.

High school marching bands from Middletown's North and South, Pack and troops of Middletown's boys and girls scout, the Elks Lodge and Auxilary all paraded down Leonardville Road in the Belford section of the township.

The parade concluded at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2179 in New Monmouth. The VFW, along with its ladies' and men’s Auxiliaries, and the Mayor and Township Committee of Middletown jointly sponsored the day's festivities.

The theme of this year’s parade was “Never Forget.” Grand Marshalls for this year’s parade were John Lewis, Marine Veteran of VFW Post 2179 and Carmen Peterson, President of the Ladies Auxiliary.
