NJ Transit Train Delays, Cancellations

Amtrak signal problems causing problems on North Jersey Coast and Northeast Corridor lines.

Amtrak signal problems have caused a series of delays and cancellations along the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines, NJ Transit announced on its Web site.

Three Northeast Corridor line trains departing New York were canceled this evening. Other Northeast Corridor trains in both directions are experiencing 60- to 90-minute delays, according to NJ Transit.

Inbound train service to New York on the North Jersey Coast line has been suspended from Long Branch, while outbound service is subject to 60- to 90-minute delays. Two evening North Jersey Coast line trains departing New York were canceled because of the signal trouble.

Bus and rail passes are being cross-honored on PATH trains and on private carriers, according to the NJ Transit alert.

Been in the train for over three hours already and just halfway to my destination. 60-90 munute delays are far from accurate.

I wish it was only a 90 min delay. The 6:32 got me home 2 hours and 45 mins late. That's a 165 min delay.

At 11:35 I got a phone call from a friend who has been at the Red Bank train station waiting for nearly 2 hours with no announcements. I just checked the NJT website and only at 11:23 they posted "North Jersey Coast line inbound service from Long Branch to New York is suspended due to Amtrak signal problems." How is my friend supposed to get home? With a hundred dollar cab ride? This is terrible. No service, no announcements, no alternate service provided.

Turns out the cab is ONLY going to cost $60. Thank you NJT. You are horrible and unreliable.

I left Manhattan via PATH at 6 pm. Got to Aberdeen-Matawan Station after 10 pm. We sat on the train at Newark Penn Station for quite a while. There was considerable confusion at one point, with people dashing off the train to try to catch an "express." Announcements were rare. The train finally left the station but stopped shortly thereafter, in the yard at Newark. Signal problems slowed our progress to a crawl, and the train jerked and lurched most of the way for some reason. I've ridden the North Jersey Coast train for over 30 years and this ride was one of the longest ever. There was a Christmas eve in the early 1980s when we sat so long at the Morgan trestle that a passenger got out her guitar and we sang Christmas carols. This signals failure is actually a function of inadequate federal funding of transportation, especially Amtrak. And Christie's rejection of funding for the upgrade of train lines into Manhattan is keeping us all up late. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

im a cab driver in rahway nj the trains were delayed longer than that we had ppl telling us they were on a train for 3 hrs or more the company i work for was everywhere from nyc to.red bank edison metro amboy all over the place

It is NOT NJT fault, it is the AMTRAK's fault as it said its the Amtrak's signal.... Remember the Amtrak owned all the tracks on the east coast and shared with the commuter or regional trains.. Just don't blame the NJT wholely..

NJ Transit always lies about the time delay.... for me i took 5:50 train from NYP and reached 9:40 at Metropark.
NJT Sucks... pathetic service I have ever seen in my life. Also not sure why Peoples are not complaining about it. NJT IS to blame for not better communicating with its customers and, for that matter, it's employees, who were left to fend for themselves against angry commuters just looking for answers. Tell the people what's happening so they can make their own decisions on how to get home quickest. I was at NY Penn and there were NO announcements. I waited 10 minutes, saw zero developments, and hopped in a cab to Port Authority to take a bus home. Most people are creatures of habit, or don't realize how inept NJT is, and they stood there for hours.

Oh, I am so glad to see that you are preserving history. My husband & I visited your town aRead More couple of weeks ago. My 9th Great Grandfather Thomas Whitlock is buried in the Old First Baptist Church yard. I was honored to stand on the porch of the home he helped build and lived in at Shoal Harbor. The name has changed to the Wilson-Seabrook House and now the Bayshore Activities Center. Wow! Too bad all the museum pieces were removed. I would love to have seen them.
