Red Bank After Sandy: The First Look

Red Bank -- Hurricane Sandy arrived in New Jersey last night bringing with it heavy winds and rain. While coastal towns suffered the brunt of the damage from Sandy, which was the first category one hurricane to hit the state, locally, downed trees and power outages are the extent of the damage.

Officials from both Red Bank and Shrewsbury are asking residents to restrict non-emergency travel as downed trees and power lines can be found in many neighborhoods still.

According to Jersey Central Power and Light, nearly 4,000 residents in Red Bank are without power, though an employee with the borough's Department of Public Works thinks it could be much higher.

Well before dawn, DPW workers were removing trees from several borough roadways, leaving those entangled in wires for JCP&L. It's unclear when residents without power can expect to get it back, though considering the volume of outages, JCP&L is calling for a worse-case scenario of between seven and 10 days.

Prior to day break we took a camera out to access some of the damage in Red Bank. Pictures were captured using longer exposure and light painting done with a flashlight.
