A
2008 graduate of CBA and engineering student at Villanova University, Kevin
Kret was an avid snowboarder and lacrosse player. On July 23, 2009, however,
life changed for him and his family. While riding his skateboard near his
home, Kevin hit some storm debris in the road. He suffered a brain injury
and never regained consciousness from the incident. Unfortunately he was
not wearing a helmet at the time.

Kevin’s
family is committed to supporting his recovery while he lives with them at
home. They have nursing, rehab equipment, physical and
occupational therapy in their home. Kevin is now a participant in
the IBRF, the International Brain Research Foundation advanced research study
for Severe Disorders of Consciousness. Kevin continues to show improvements
with the help of technology, therapies and nursing skills.
Just
recently, Kevin has been able, by moving his arms, to communicate “yes” and
“no” responses. The Kret family is extremely confident that Kevin
will continue to improve. Kevin is the oldest of 4 children and will
always be an inspiration to his friends and family.
Vendor
donations made it possible for Nicole Ardito, Chairman of Walk the Walk, to
organize a mini carnival. The purpose was for the community to come out to
celebrate Kevin’s life with a moon bounce, skateboard team demonstration
and helmet safety, music, face painting and several other vendors.
Victoria Gemignani, Co-Chair of the Walk the Walk, said “We want to continue to
support the Krets while having a fun day to celebrate Kevin’s life”.
