Carlson leads Blues to Eleventh Straight Win

LINCROFT – The Jersey Blues took over sole possession of first place in the NJCAA Region XIX Conference standings defeating third ranked Cumberland Community College (13-1,8-1), 68-57, Monday at Collins Arena.

Showing no signs of rust after a two week Christmas break, Brookdale (11-2,8-0) won their eleventh game in a row after starting the season 0-2.
The ninth ranked Blues had four players score in double figures led by 6-foot-3 inch sophomore center Samantha Carlson’s (Manalapan H.S.) double-double. Carlson scored 14 points, including eight first half points, and grabbed a team high 17 rebounds, including eight offensive boards. In an awesome display of all-around play, she also contributed six steals and five blocked shots.

Brookdale led by five, 37-32, at the half but kept the lead at ten points or above most of the second half.
Freshman forward/center Marya Trapp (Red Bank Regional) dropped in 14 points to tie Carlson for top scorer and hauled in eight rebounds, including three offensive boards.
Sophomore shooting guard Marina Lukianov (Howell H.S.) added 12 points, five boards, four assists and a blocked shot. Freshman guard Paxton Reddington (Saint John Vianney) had 10 points and four rebounds, while sophomore Lauren Bowler (Red Bank Regional) again exhibited stellar point guard play with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and one blocked shot.
The Brookdale women head to Massachusetts for two games this weekend against Holyoke and Bristol Community Colleges with a chance to measure up against some tough out-of-state competition.
